Low level over the Limpopo

Postby t-bird » Mon Nov 12, 2007 11:12 am

The visibility was unbelievable. This picture was taken from Midrand and you could see the Johannesburg CBD in the back ground.

Still a lot of power left. The manifold pressure is at 31 inches. This is the cruise setting. Can push it up to 39 inches.
I enjoy low and slow more. I was cruising at 30 mph over the Limpopo.
It was quite easy to put it in a hover and look at the game.

Nice photo's,

Please interpret the readings (EGT?) shown in the photo.

Don't look "lekker" to me although the detail is somewhat abstract.

Maximum Exhaust Gas Temperature 950ºC / 1742ºF
Normal Exhaust Gas Temperature 900ºC / 1652ºF

Within limits
EGT is less than 800 degrees. There is a difference of about 40 degrees between the 2 probes. Carbs maybe need some balancing.

Had no idea that 4-strokes ran that hot.

My 582 runs at 550° C.

Thanks for the feedback.

Hangaring ?

Postby Doug Gleen » Sat Nov 24, 2007 10:38 am

Where do you hangar ? How long is your strip? I have a 380m strip near Bluehills, but the question is, is it long enough for an MT03 ????

Hi Doug

Your strip is about 280m long enough for almost any gyro.

100m runway and another 100m unobstructed to accelerate in griynd effect should be plenty.

Impressive performance T-Bird. Makes flying such a pleasure! For interest sake, What machine is it? How much weight were you carrying - Pax+fuel? Rotor size? Rotor RPM? the picture isnt clear enough for me to work it out.

Enjoy!

I know you feel as I do... "I envy no man on earth"

Rgds

Hi t-bird

Are you based at Grand Central?

I contacted the tower one day hoping to go there for breakfast the following morning to be told that gyros could not land there.

Jetranger asked
What machine is it? ELA 08
How much weight were you carrying - Pax+fuel? No pax. 50 liter of extra fuel, 2 Liter of water, 6pack ,Clothing, Pucture repair kit, Covers for the aircraft, Food,

Rotor size? Standard ELA rotor
Rotor RPM? 390 – 400 RPM

Doug Gleen asked if 380m is enough.
The strips that we operate from are shorter, but not advisable.
No room for error.
If your choke get stuck or density altitude or heavy pax or pitch not set correct or zero wind or dirty air filter or rotor brake not fully disengage will make you sweat.

Eggbeater asked about landing at Grand Central
Never landed there only in contact with them
