Kevin phoned and e-mailed me this morning and we have the final go ahead regarding the registration letters. 150mm on the vertical stab. PLEASE GET YOUR GYRO LEGAL NOW.
It has taken a long time to get the powers that be to agree. Let us now play ball.
Regards
Eric

Good day all of you involved in finding resolution to this matter.

We understand that this has taken a while but we are happy with the outcome for this blanket approval as clarified below.

The Gyro Plane Association (SAGPA) and the AeCSA would to thank the office of the DCA and the Airworthiness department for assisting the industry to comply with the regulations for the slightly smaller registration size as contemplated in the regulations.

We understand that what SACAA has agreed to is that the regulations stand but if the tail boom surfaces cannot accommodate the normal size lettering then the industry has been given the blanket approval to place the registration markings as follows

“1. Two (2) 150 mm Lettering for the registration marks on suitable vertical fins (one each side is in compliance with 47.00.3 section 8.(4) (b) Measurement of marks and 47.00.3 section 6.(7)

Further more we understand that our offered requirement of one (1) 300mm lettering for the registration mark on belly of aircraft an addition which is not required 47.00.3 section 6.(6) (a) is not part of the regulations and thus will not be necessary.

This is indeed a decision with a practical win-win outcome for industry and SACAA. We hope that the interpretation of what is a sufficient size area to display the registration markings will not become a problem.

We look forward to further similar interactions making aviation simpler.

Kind regards,

Preserving Free Flight
