Type Ratings

Hi All

Ok to all those out there smarter than I, and I guess that means pretty much everyone vhpy
Who out there has the code Y018 on there licence? I have had this discussion with a well known and respected instructor, as well as reviewing the type code list as supplied by the CAA. The code dosnt appear on the CAA list, so if anyone can shed some light on this I would be very interested to hear all about it.

Cheers
Darren

Good evening Ozz,
I have the rating and it is indicated just as "Magni VPM".
The M16 Trainer is indicated as Y007
The M22 is Y020
The M24 is Y026
Why are you asking?

Regards

Hi All

JVL - Wouldn't Y007 bee the M16 VPM as we know it? Surely Y018 would cover a later generation of gyro (Possibly the newer generation M16 Trainer). Its interesting that you have it on your licence as it does not even apear on the CAA list of types, well not the one I have seen anyways. My understanding is that Y018 states Magni Gyro and thats it. The reason I ask is I also have it on my licence but as I said it doesnt even appear on the CAA type listing for gyro's. Im just wondering where it leaves me in a legal sense as to what gyro I can actually fly and even more interesting would would be the implications if I was to have an accident and then try and claim on my insurance.

Cheers

Hi Darren
Yes I am rated on the Y018 ( Magni M 16) as well as the Y007 ( VPM M16 )
The Y007 as far as I know is for the 2 stroke 120 hp Arrow Engine (VPM M16 Gyrocopter) and you than should be rated on a 4 stroke turbocharger engine like the Magni M 16 with the Rotax 914 Turbo (Y018)
Your logbook should be sign out for turbo or if equipped a VP prop

The Y007 refers to the VPM M16 as well as the Magni M16 (with Rotax engine) The type number was never changed between these two.
As far as Y018 is concerned, it was actually the type designation for the M18 single seater. I know it does not state that on the type designator with SACAA, but that is what it actually is. Also refer to the time line ie the M18 was in the country before the Ela which is Y019.
With regard to the Magni M16. If you flew the 2 stroke version, then later the 4 stroke version, SACAA did not make any distinction at the time and used Y007 on both.
AS far as I am aware, until recently only Butch and I had valid ratings for the M18 but I think that has changed. If it is not signed off in the guy's logbook it has been entered onto his licence in error.
