GYRO: Fun Rally 13 August Kitty Hawk

Postby old no 7 » Wed Jul 06, 2011 11:46 am

Calling All Gyro Pilots,

To join in a Fun Navigation Rally.

Kitty Hawk, in association with SAPFA and SAGPA will be hosting a fun rally specifally aimed at gyro pilots and their navigators.

The rally will be held according to the SAPF Fun Navigation Rally rules:
http://www.sapfa.org.za/events/Entryadd.php

I have participated in one of these rallies and it really is a tremendous lot of fun.
There is no excuse that your compass doesn't work in a gyro and you have to use GPS.
This day will take you back to the basics and I guarantee you will learn something from the experience.
It's about accurate flying, pilot/navigator communication, eyeball 101 and having fun.

Date: 13 August
Where: FAKT (Kitty Hawk)
Time: Briefing will commence at 09:00
Entry fees: R200 (Payable on the day, rather than the SAPFA Internet banking route) - to cover cost of loggers, maps etc.

We would like to encourage participants to pre-register on http://www.sapfa.org.za/events/Entryadd.php, (the drop-down option for this event has been added)
If you are interested in participating, drop a reply on this thread so that your buddies can see who they have to beat. ##

Regards
Glen

Hi All

Glen I would love to join in, but believe the rumor going around at Alldays is that I cant actually fly
Anyways am pretty sure Id get lost just trying to find my way from Brakpan to KittyHawk, and then theres the issue of trying to find a navigator, do you really think anyone trusts an Ozzie enough to fly with one :?:

Cheers

I am not scared (well, I am, but just ignore it). If there is a pilot out there wondering whether to do it or not, I am willing to "act" as navigator. It is a fun rally, so why not just do it? If there are guys willing to go to all the trouble of arranging such an event, why not support them by participating? See you 13 August??

Way to go Kosie!
I am sure we will find you a pilot for the day. (do you mind Australians?) ##

Hey Darren, it wasn't a rumour. It was a theory which has yet to be "disproved".
We are going to believe it when you arrive (in the front seat) at FAKT on 13August

Ok, seriously, jokes aside: Kosie or any other volunteer navigators, I'm sure many of my gyro buddies are a bit worried about the navigation side or will be looking for navigators. So post your details on this thread and maybe we can hook you up with a gyro pilot for the day. (Great way to discover aviation's best kept secret)

You really don't need to be an expert, the organisers are there to help and teach you on the day. (That's what the whole day is about)

Ek is in , maar onthou net , daar is net plek vir een dik ou in my Gyro en dis ek.
So , are there any skinny navigators looking for a job ?

Please take lots of pictures for those of us that are there in spirit only.

Wish we could join you.

Hi Glen,

Is fuel available to purchase at Kitty Hawk, for those coming from far and have to return after the exercise ?
How long do you plan having the Rally for ? Range of some gyros might be an issue.
I intend taking my wife as a navigator and she has never read an aviation map in her life ! And Kitty Hawk might me too short for me to do a spot landing.
Well I am going to have fun !

Great VT, look forward to seeing you there.

We have an avgas pump, but I will arrange a whole lot of extra mogas 95 in cans.
All pilots needing 95ul, please drop me an email or post indicating how many liters.

Rgds
