Intercom in an open gyro: What's the answer?

A forum search hasn't yielded much joy so your advice is welcomed
What is the best option for an open gyro intercom system?
Last weekend I took up a pax for the first time since I got my new M22 and to put it bluntly the intercom system is shite.

I guess it's running through the Filser radio - but the bottom line is that comms between myself and pax was virtually impossible - pax has to PTT using a little toggle switch and with the intercom system switched on it keeps my mic activated so get noise wind & engine mic pick up blasting thru my headset the whole flight.
My previous gyro had a noise-cancelling set up with voice-activated pax & pilot comms - what a pleasure! I could set the noise/cancelling sensitivity with a small dial once we were flying, plug in my ipod (with radio rx override) and it all worked like a bomb - unfortunately I don't know who manufactured / installed it.
Any suggestions for a decent open gyro comms system? (and no I'm not going to buy a fully enclosed gyro just yet...haha)

The headsets have to be the same.
Standard David clarkes works best forget about fancy anr.
Set your mike volume in the setup menu for the correct vox setting

Thanks T-Bird - that could have been the problem. Headsets weren't matched: I was using a David Clarke, may PAX a Zulu QFR. I do have a spare DC headset so will give that a try. Thanks

My son usually use my DC's at the Back and I have to use the Light speed QFR solo. Works a bit better that way a round but it is not perfect.

Hi Dave.
It is all in the setup.
Set your microphone level sufficiently down to enable you to control the VOX setting on the radio to remain below maximum even at take-off.
Then you can adjust as the noise increase/decrease during flight.

Hi Dave..
Might not be as informative..
I was at Kitty Hawk this past weekend and I was amazed at the quality of the sound produced by a certain gyro, I don't know the owner but the registration is ZU-LEN. Even the certified fixed wings that visited on the day did not have as clear communication. It was crystal clear.
Cheers,
Jaco

Thanks Jaco - ZU-LEN is a Magni M22 gyro - same model as mine.

Some more useless info.
ZU-LEN is my hanger partner and I sent him the Filser manual last night, as he has exactly the same problem with the intercomm.
I will tell him that his transmission are 100%

Also have this irritating problem, outside noise (not rf) sounds like it is al mic input from the pax (trike), have swopped the headsets front to rear, same.
Have a busscom intercom system (only has volume)
Have one speak easy headset, one buzzcom headset, both in peltor cubs,(no volume contol on headsets) had to change one lead fitting (wiring)
I now swich pax off for a periodes.
Looking at whole new system - but it is expensive - (1x intercom with 2x headsets)
Question -does this other system work better and is it worth the cost??

Dave
I have an "Air Magic" intercom system for you with two headsets and all cables. Built for open cockpit and is crystal clear on pax communication and transmission.
It was ordered, never collected and is brand new. You are welcome to fit it and test with it no obligation.
Tommy can set it up in less that 30 minutes. Let me know.
