Gyro's to Gariep from the Western Cape - Meeting!

Postby Gyronaut » Sat Apr 16, 2011 7:55 pm

I propose all those from the Cape(W) that wish to fly in a gaggle to Gariep have a meeting at Morningstar Airfield on Wednesday 11 May 2011 at 18h30. (Bar opens at 17h00)

We have a volunteer (Nic) for the ground support vehicle and fuel trailer and luggage and need to finalise the logistics. You will have to provide your own Jerry cans so bring them along on the day please. Work out your anticipated fuel usage for a refill at Matjiesfontein, Beaufort West and Richmond and make sure you have adequate jerry cans then Nic will fill them for us and bring them to the airfield at each stop; there and back.

Let me know if you can make it or let me have suggestions for a better time/date?

Rgds

Following some questions at the airfield yesterday, I have done some flight planning on EasyPlan. I have set cruise speed to 65mph and fuel consumption to 21ltrs per hour.
(Both overcompensating quite a lot)

I have assumed a refill out of 2 x 25ltr Jerry cans at Matjiesfontein, Beaufort West and Richmond.

The longest leg is between Matjiesfontein and Beaufort west, at 65mph, 2hrs 7 minutes. We will probably make better speed so it will take less time and use less fuel so this is worst case scenario.

I will have EasyPlan up on the bigscreen at Morningstar on Wednesday the 11th to discuss alternatives etc and to see what effect they will have on our planning.

Any comments/suggestions welcome!
