Xenon and X-plane

Postby Drake » Sun Jul 18, 2010 8:09 pm

A while back MAK e-mailed me about a post on another forum about flying a xenon on x-plane. He brought me back to reality as mine had evolved into an XL2c with a fancy paint job and jump-start. Told him I would scratch out the FAKT airport (not in X-Plane) and get the model back to reality. i.e. to look like his. I'm on this forum as you all have way more interest going than any where else.

X-plane supports only the avidine glass panel so I pasted the Odyssey image into the x-plane panel image and then added avidine components.

A reference for any questions on how to get this stuff into X=Plane: you start with x-plane / Plane-maker and design the plane ( you can copy another plane and modify to your specs) Export the wire frame and open with a 3D obj program. The panel is done in Plane maker using your image of your cockpit through a image program that supports layers and PNG files (Gimp 2 is a good free program and of course Photoshop is the best ... which can also paint 3D objects in the latest ver. MEGA BUCKS) I use AC3D (min $ and user friendly) (tried free google sketch-up, not impressed) Develop a good looking 3D model and then export back to x-plane with free AC3D add-on for x-plane.

Well done Drake, good to hear from you again. I see your landing has improved a lot  , now you must just work on your short field landings vhpy vhpy . Is their any way to improve the refreshing rate/zoom rate of google earth in the video to give you a better quality / realistic picture? Your Kitty Hawk re-creation is very realistic, well done. I will start with X-plane this week and give you some feedback soon, might need to contact you to guide me through the process.

Hope your house has dried out by now and all repair work done.

(^^) Hi Drake - outstanding job. Some time ago I tried to make a MT03 fly in X-Plane without any success and was told that limitations in X-Plane prevents gyros from working. Well, you certainly proved otherwise. I am highly impressed. Once my proper computer (which I am also patiently awaiting) arrives, I would definitely be looking out for your Xenon.

Well done.

Thanks Guys, I tweeked the runway direction a bit, Google overlay shows it about 6 degrees instead of 10 ??? I tried to attach the file (apt.dat) that you would paste into x-planes apt.dat file but it say that extension isn't allowed. if you want it .... e-mail and I can send it to you. It will have the runway and taxiways but not the buildings. The x-plane apt.dat file is so big it messes with a normal text editor but I found the free "Notepad++" works great. http://download.cnet.com/Notepad/3000-2 ... 27521.html . The buildings are added in the overlay editor and at the moment are from opensceneryX. If someone could send me straight on photos of the hangers and clubhouse I can make some realistic buildings. The airplane file for the Xenon isn't quite ready to share yet but soooooon!

Kosie

I think you were misinformed. The link below has a couple of gyro's that you can download for free for X-pane 8. I have played around with the MT03 a few years ago and it worked perfectly.

WOW Drake, I am very impressed. Can't wait to get my X-pane version 9 to test this for you. The virtual flying in google earth is amazing, you have done a great job. I don't think our recreational pilots understand the potential and value of simulator training and refreshers like commercial pilots do. I also don't know if most people understand how realistic the flight characteristics of aeroplanes are on modern simulators. If all the modern aircraft manufacturers, like NASA, Boeing, Cessna, Carter Aviation, etc could trust the simulators to give them the final go-ahead to invest millions of dollars in an aircraft, then surely we can trust them to be realistic enough for training. I do believe it can be very valuable to simulate emergency situations as you can put a student or yourselve in a more dangerous emergency situation than you would ever do in a real aircraft. Who knows, the simulator might even get your take offs and landings to be perfect

New computer is up and running .... AWESOME!!! maxed out resolution across 2 screens with laptop running panel and an older computer running one side view. Did the 5th revision on the flight chair and made major improvements. Just waiting on MAK for pics of the inside to add inside cockpit views. I'm now able to do the screen capture without the plane going unstable and found most of my landing problems weren't me but the overloaded computer. Just bought Poser 8 to redo the pilot and copilot as real people.
