Hi Guys
Winter is upon us , But soon it would be spring , and i would love for the Western Cape gyro pilots / Owners / Support , to fly to a destination and get to know each other better , and talk gyro.
We have our very active friends in the Upington area and then sopme in Cape town and surrounds , I am therefore looking for a midway point , or someplace that is NICE !
Keep in mind that the place need to have a runway of sorts , and accomodation.
I have had suggestions from guys already , and would love some more .
Then the calender watchers , when would be a good time ?
O yes guys from other provinces are more than welcome .
Your thoughts please
Paul

That is a great idea!! I hope I have my gyro by then. Does anyone have a "Pilot Destinations" book laying around? Maybe we can get some ideas from there?

I would like to suggest Assegaaybosch Game Reserve see
http://www.roamingafrica.com/single_wes ... -bosch.asp . Just this side of Oudtshoorn, very good accomodation, good tar runway and aviation freindly folk. Not too expensive from what I recall, all considered.

I have just looked at this again and realised that Assegaaybosch is hardly half way to Upington.
Perhaps we should do a more local one there and find somewhwere more suitable in the Northern Cape.

Assegaaibos is certainly an option but yes, it is far from Upington.
... then again, it does have Barbie!

Better check if she is still there eh?

I watched RPM last night. They did some testing at Thaba Nchu Aerodrome and stayed at Black Mountain Hotel. Looks pretty good!
Just a bit too far - 918km from Stellenbosch
Thaba Nchu Aerodrome - S29 18 47.7 E26 49 12.1
Black Mountain Hotel - S29 18 24.8 E26 51 21.0

A few more options would be:
Carnarvon - Aviation friendly people, plenty of accomodation, perhaps hangerage, almost exactly halfway, should be able to arrange fuel.
Melton Wold - Karroo guest lodge with OK gravel airstrip, plenty of accomodation, no hangerage, fuel could be a problem.
Beaufort West - Good airfiled plenty of accomodation, not sure on hangerage, fuel on site.
Gariep Dam - Good airfield, accomodation and fuel on site, not sure on hangerage.
Regards
Jonathan
