Had a great flight down with Len, Cillers and Anton, leaving from Stellenbosch on Friday afternoon at 1400. Flight slightly thermic at that time of day, with temperatures of 34 degrees, but a very enjoyable flight.

At one stage, 80 aircraft flew into Swellendam. On Saturday morning, the day of the airshow, ATC's Gordon and Johan handled 45 aircraft movements in 45 minutes, that's 1 landing every minute! That gives the busy Heathrow a run for its money!

Show day was a hot affair at 36 degrees in the shade, with a reasonable line of aircraft. After Len's display, other highlights were the L39, PC7, Pitts Special, Orynx, Augusta and the Hawk.

I flew back immediately after the show (I had to be back as I was rostered to be on Standby on Sunday morning for Spoories). I routed via Ashton, McGregor and then crossing the Riviersonderend mountains which required climbing to 6000 to get over them, routing over Greyton and then onto Sir Lowry's Pass.

Paul, you must have been quite wrecked standing in the sun all day, doing your thing. Hard work being a safety man!

Was Hard work , but was my first official event as Safety Officer (under the watchfull eye of Rikus Erasmus ) , but like he said was bigger than we thought , I learned alot and we are already planning the Fashkosh event , And in the same month i Have the Gariep fly - Inn (gyro getogether )

But i must admit everybody was well behaved and made it easy !!

Glad you got fuel when you did , became a bit hectic afterwards , Another thing i learned , if you want fuel get it when you arrive , everybody waits till just before departure .
