Talking about slipping and the rotor, I totally agree to your point of view. I am flying a Flight Design CTSW (sleek and composite) from time to time. When flying alone and being light (despite my 90 kg), slipping down is mostly the safest way to get this floater down, (full flaps under strong crosswinds is not a good idea, unless you want to commit suicide), and the topology of our field with a wooded hill in front of final asks for a clean descend anyway.
But I do not see any need to do it with a Gyro. Hopefully, I will always remember that. It was cut out of the German syllabus for good reasons.
