Gyrosa

I think my post about instructors can be read with point 2 of the first post made by Gerrit.

“. SAGPA should be pro-active to improve instruction quality.”

Giving instruction without the necessary paper documents does not improve the quality of instruction or improve our standing with CAA.

I hear your comment “We are all human and do forget from time to time.”

Unfortunately it is not applicable to aviation especially to instructors.

An instructor should set an example of airmanship that is transferred to the student.

How do you propose we improve our instruction quality if there are no consequences for above actions ?

Again I say, STOP TRYING TO NITPICK!!!!

Forgetting your license does not diminish the quality of instruction at all, neither does it prove poor airmanship in any way on the part part of a pilot and/or instructor.

The issue on instruction was discussed at length during a recent visit to Poland and we (those that were there) agreed that there has been a radical swing in the whole issue of gyro's and that we as instructors need to upgrade radically or get left behind. This visit was in September of this year. In addition we also discussed the present shortcomings in the system. You must accept that instructing is not something that remains static. It changes with the times and has to bend with the change in times. This is what we are looking at eg- more ground work on instruments, (new glass cockpits are coming into the market and are starting to become more and more in demand), engines are being changed to similar engines but with different mods done in the factory (Rotax 912 RST), rotor blades have changed (Aluminium), pre-rotator drives are changing,(flex drives with bendix, shaft drives with bendix, shaft dives with electrical bendix), frames have changed (4130, stainless steel, aluminium, composites, etc). The new student must now become more technically trained as well. This does not diminish the fact that all the written subjects need upgrading as well.

Regarding the flight training, more emphasis will have to placed on the limitations of the aircraft and that of pilots, dangers that can be experienced such as low flying (which has claimed too many lives already), accuracy of flight (maintaining levels), cross country work without GPS, mountain work, emergency procedures, radio work, work in and around controlled airspaces, airmanship both in the air as well as on the ground, etc.

I agree that SAGPA should become pro-active to improve instruction quality, but people who stand on the side lines and keep crying foul and nitpick on this forum really do not help the situation at all. As I stated before, let's rather start with more positive and meaningful critism and pull together.

So, as stated in my previous postings, stop trying to nitpick and offer some positive comments and forget about issues such as night flying (was with Willem today at RAASA and the answer was "it ain't gonna happen"), or overflying built up areas (the ATF reads now:- "all flights are conducted under VMC by day and unless unavoidable will be not be undertaken over built-up areas and open-air assemblies of persons except for the purpose of take off and landing".

I look forward to your more positive inputs in the future, and will try and refrain from trying to answer nitpicking as this does not build anything positive at all.

I spoke to a very good friend of mine recently iro of organisations such as MISASA & SAGPA etc.

He made an interesting comment - John, it's like the farmers I deal with (he is a farmer himself by the way, a member of MISASA & an instructor)... you get the ones that refuse to join the "Boere Vereniging" but the peanut gallery boer is the first to moan when the road past his farm is not graded or other issues aren't addressed!

There are extremely competent chaps on the side (yes, you know who you are! ) that possibly have the same opinion or viewpoint as T-Bird - however, the system cannot improve if you don't contribute pro-actively. Judging from the previous posts, certain viewpoints are not going to change. But if we are all going to just sit back and let CAA & RAASA do their own thing and prescribe.... sell your Gyro, Trike, Fixed Wing or whatever you fly now!

GYROSA

I am not NITPICKING but, SAGPA wants to improve the quality of instruction and I have raised a valid point.

I beg to differ “Forgetting your license does not diminish the quality of instruction at all, neither does it prove poor airmanship in any way on the part part of a pilot and/or instructor.”

Okay so does it improve instruction or airmanship ?

I don’t see any need to go to Poland to get good instruction.

You have FOGYRO on this forum who flies boeings, Piet Kruger ATPL flies for Mango. We have Renier at MGL who designs glass panels in South Afirca.

Why not go and ask them ? Please give us the reasons.

I can only guess that a trip to Poland had something to do with a manufacture of Gyros and NOTHING with instruction.

Quite a few people already asked at what time this meeting is starting and no one has answered !
It has to happen in the morning. Thunderstorms are on their way and it must be over by 12:00.
Can someone confirm please.

The CAA has grounded all Xenons following the same problem than the MT's as we use the same blade manufacturer.
What a good time to choose, 12 hrs before the AGM, when it was known for the past 2 weeks.
Well, I won't attend the AGM.
