Re: Death before Altitude!
Awesome. It must be nice when one is able to fly up there, and be comfortable with the height, and not get that scared feeling.

Ek kry hoogtevrees as ek op my kantoorstoel sit en na daai foto kyk.gertcoetzee wrote:Yes, nothing beats a bit of altitude for a great view. This one at Aurora @ around 5000ft above, see the little spot on the mountain - the radar dome.

But I have to agree. I have pushed myself to 2 500' AGL searching for something, and the scenery is something else,FO Gyro wrote:Awesome. It must be nice when one is able to fly up there, and be comfortable with the height, and not get that scared feeling.

Strangely going over 6500' AMSL I suddenly realise I am in big blik country also, and I keep on getting the feeling of some blik coming at me at 200mph, while his head is in his cockpit fiddling with his dozens of buttons and lights.

The only thing one will think of at that height is that you sit on a garden chair with NO sides, strapped to a 72mm aluminium pipe with a wall thickness of 1.8mm. Tell that to someone WHILE you are up there, and then try and hang on!

Re: Death before Altitude!
Flew to Hazyview a couple of years ago for the Africa Cup and went up to 10500ft for the tailwind! Reached groundspeeds of 136mph over the berg in a trike that normally flies at 65-70mph airspeed. Needless to say we were thrown around like pieces of paper once overhead Hazyview by the mountain wave! The descend was scary stuff and required a change of shorts!
Awesome picture Alkemac, had to climb to 10 000ft returning from Margate not to long ago and the views are amazing although those flying wires suddenly become very thin!
