Hi JetRanger,

You mentioned something of an instructor’s license, is that for Gyro training?

Skid me mate me ole pal, the way i know you (as with most of us) is your passion is flying and being in the air is what brings you most joy. To that end, my (personal) advice is stick to what you know, enjoy every minute flying ole faithful (she is lovely) and if the urge really bites to fly gyro then pursue it at a later stage. I know morning star and understand exactly what you say, wow its a challening strip but such a great place with its proximity to blouberg, contermans and fisantekraal...?/ Why outlay a bucket of money to pursue something that you do so well anyway. Perhaps spend a bit more on getting the challie exactly as you want her, make her the best in the country, invest in a bigger bar for the hangar, hell, do a conversion onto bobmans jorra if its something new your looking for, but going through a whole new qualifying process??? hmmmmmm.... then buying a gyro to do what your doing already..????

Before I get killed here, I AM BY NO MEANS knocking a gyro in any manner or means whatsoever. I would dispense the same advice to a gyro pilot wanting to requalify on a three axis. Unless money is no factor and time no problem, why go the the effort??

Aye aye, that it is exactly. I will be operating under Aerosport at Fisantekraal and training will be done mostly using the Magni and/or the Sycamore Eagle.

I couldnt agree more with you Ldel. I am so tired of people sprouting off about the Sycamore until I load them in it and show them that they are making total assholes of themselves by perpetrating the bull that is generated by sour opposition. I feel very strongly that as long as the sport of gyro flying [SAFELY] is promoted, I dont care what gyro you fly, you're "one of us"! Hell some of my best mates have Magni's and that doesn't put me off them

Sadly it appears as if the Sycamore factory has closed its doors due to the efforts of the opposition talking kak about them and of course the fatal incident still under investigation where the rotor was fitted incorrectly by an AMO didn't do them any favours because the tyre kickers only hear that it was a Sycamore, not that the agent for an opposition type did the mod.

Oh well, I am happy with my machine and sadly it appears they will not be available new anymore.

PS. One obvious advantage of the Sycamore is its looks... CHICKS DIG IT! xxx

Dish, You probably correct. For now things will have to stay the way they are. It does cost a bucket..hmmmm... truck load of cash. Something which is very scarse at the moment. Yes I would like to do a few more things to the challie like new wing covers etc. Hopefully get some decent wx and get some airtime!!!! (^^). I did however get a ride with Jetranger today. The wind was pomping big time. He offered me the control and I kindly refused rather keep it in the pro's hands thankyou very much. But I was impressed that it handles the wind like that. We had I serious cross wind from the west/ northwest. At Morningstar thats a real tester.

Hi Skidmark
I have about 150 hours on both microlight and Gyro, and yes I have also been flying the Sycamore! I do not care what you do but nothing touches flying a gyro. To me personally it has been the most fun flying I have ever done, regardless of the type of aircraft I have been flying. The gyro concept must be close to the ultimate airplane ever built. I can remember one day when a cold front was passing over the Magalies and the southerly wind was blowing at what must have been close to 30 m.p.h and I took her up. Never had more fun. These planes are just made for wind and turbulance. You can land where any microlight can land, fly faster or slower than them etc.
Gyro's are magnificent planes and if you consider buying buy what you can afford. Please do not lend your ears out to all the experts on the web! they will only cost you money.
