I love it! A trike with a REAL topless wing! I had this response to an enquiry I made about a Hirth powered unit.
"There have been many enquiries from South Africa and we have a customer who wants to order two at this stage with Rotax 912 ULS engines.
The Hirth F30 fuel injected engine works extremely well on the Gyroz, this can be supplied complete in a semi assembled form at a price of AUS $49,500.00 excluding Freight."
That converts to R271 615. Does any one know who the SA buyer is?

Hi. I had a mail from the owner at Gyroz, and he stated that he has had several enquiries, but no official agent has been appointed in SA, so, deal directly with him and save yourself some commission.
The prices that he (Jeff Henley - Smith) quoted me are:
Gyroz with Simonini Engine : Aus $ 45 000.00
Gyroz with Rotax 912 ULS : Aus $ 56 800.00
Gyroz with Rotax 914 Turbo : Aus $ 66 400.00
Quite a difference to local priices on the other Gyro's, but one must keep in mind the import duties to be paid. I'm sure you could find this out from any good import agent.
I have sent a mail to Andre Swanaepoel at CAA requesting what needs to be done to certify the gyro - to date I have not had any reply.

No import duty. Vat payable on 110% of the invoice price at the rate of the day as well as customs and clearing fees (<R5000 to be safe, but think it far less than that)

I do not know anything about this gyro, but as this gyro weighs approx the same as all the others, just a word of caution.
From own experience, at altitude and high temps, with two up, gyros do not like flying with 100 hP. (At altitude a N A egine doesn't even get close to it's specified performance.)FO gyro mentioned he does not use his turbo for take-off one up, but when it becomes hot with two up it is a different story. Another thing is the 27 ft rotor

It might be a very nice gyro, but just make sure you do not buy something that only two very small persons with litlle fuel can only get in the air at the coast.

Aussie gyro
Agree, it looks good from a distance, but the effort to bring in the first one??? Last time I brought a prop in ( July 2007 ) "they" charged us 14% "custom VAT" and then the clearing charges amounted to another 5% of the value.....
What about the cost of shipping and Insurance? Does anyone have experience? When we export we are charged about R 25 000 per container and then the Insurance on "delicate" items can reach as high as 2% of value...
If I add all of this up it seems as if we are just "a tank full of juice" less than the MT03 or a new Sycamore, not to even mention the RAF.
Has anobody on the group actually flown a "two seater" with anything less than a 914 ( or then the big Subaru RAF or Sycamore ) on the Highveld????

This machine is a lot lighter than those found here (if advertised figures are correct : 230 Kgs empty !) Then it could run on the highveld with less than a 914. A c172 climbs at only 200 fpm here and is not labeled as dangerous. As long as the pilot knows the limits and does not allow himself in a poor situation. A RAF with the the small 130 HP Subaru, 2 pax, climbs in JHB at about 300 fpm. That could drastically change with better rotors.
