suitable headset for gyros

Hello fellow gyronaughts.

I need advice for a suitable helmet and head set for my gyro. I find at 100 MPH the noise from the engine is really loud. What are you you guys using that works to reduce the engine noise?

I'm currently using a Bose A20 headset which does a good job of noise reduction. With a bluetooth phone link I can make in-flight calls with superb clarity for both parties. You can connect music through a 3.5mm jack plug connection.

Prior to the A20's I had the Lightspeed Zulu 2, (a victim of BBBEE shopping). The noise reduction is very similar if not better, music can be streamed over the bluetooth, which I preferred, but the clarity over the phone was not as good, especially for the person on the other end who battled to hear over the ambient noise of the engine/wind, so I had to shout a bit to be heard properly.

Given that I rarely make in-flight calls however, I'd probably go with the Zulu's if I had to buy more.

Hi Rob. I also have very sensitive ears and flying in the gyro has always been a chalange for me noise wise. I also experienced some deafening and tinitus over time... Ive been trough it all. noise reduction does help, but not satisfactory. The problem is with high end headsets, the mics are very easily activated from the engine noise and when the intercom opens, all that noise comes in throught the mic. I think you will find all the info there. Best of luck. this system is second to none and the coms to this day in my open cockpit M16 is far better than what I have experienced in an enclosed cockpit of the R44 heli.

As for the comms, Bose A20's with Zulu1's helmet/visor work perfectly in our open cockpit training M16's. The only improvement may be HAZZ.
