Single seater gyros
Are there any single seater gyros avilable new from reputable manufacturers?
Re: Single seater gyros
Hi Guys
Bosbok to answer your question, yes there certainly is. In SA thou you will probably want to go down one of two paths as I believe both of these types have already been registered and approved there.
Sportcopter Vortex
Magni M18
However if you lived in the great land Down Under you choices would be far greater and varied
Cheers

Re: Single seater gyros
Bosbok, I'm not sure but I think the Magni M14 is probably also an option. Its very light with the option of the 100 or 115 hp Rotax. I think it will be an awesome aerie.... Anybody in who has actually flown one? http://www.magnigyro.co.za/model-m14.html

Hi Guys
Ok I'm going to play Devils advocate here and go into a little more detailed response
Both the Magni M18 and Sportcopter Vortex are great gyros if you weigh up to about 80kg maximum and you can utilize the Rotax 582 version of either, then it's an affordable option. However once you take the step up to the Rotax 912 100hp (and I speak here of only the Vortex) then this machine will end up costing you in the vicinity of 50-60 Thousand US Dollars depending on the exact specification.
Let's assume on today's exchange rate you pay 9 Rand to the Dollar then you are basically up for somewhere between R450,000 - R550,00 to purchase a great high powered single seater, unless you have a specific need for that type of machine/configuration then you will be far better off purchasing a good secondhand Magni M16 or M22, Autogiro MT 03 or MTO Sport or the ELA 07 all of which will be fitted with the awesome Rotax 914 Turbo 115hp motor. Any one of those machines can be bought for under the R550,000 mark quite easily.
If SA let you easily register home built and kit gyros then yes it's an extremely enjoyable and affordable way to go, however we all know this isn't the case right now. With this in mind I'd steer you towards any of the factory built two seaters, you will never regret the purchase of a two seater, some of my most memorable and enjoyable flying hours have been sitting either in front, behind or beside many of your fellow countryman. Which ever way you go you will never regret owning a gyro.
Safe flying.
Cheers

Re: Single seater gyros
I completed my training recently at 303 Squadron in Brakpan. There is a single seater Magni there with a 582 blue top. Matthew, my instructor, loves flying it!

Would you not find it more difficult to sell a single seater again?

Re: Single seater gyros
Gyro's somehow ends up like family - you complain about them, but you never( OK -seldom) get rid of them.
So rather look at your needs over the longer period.

Fake people worry about their image.... Real people just don't give a damn!!!

Hi Bosbok,
Speak to the RAFSA Team in Upington aswell, they currently have a special running for R475 000.00, and will most probably be able to assist you.

Re: Single seater gyros
Hi Bosbok,
I was at 303 Squadron at Brakpan Airfield on Sunday morning. The single seater Magni is still there. Apparently the owner emigrated to New Zealand and now wants to sell. I believe the price is around R275,000.
It looks to be in very good condition.
PM me for contact details.
Paul.
