Calling All Gyro Pilots,
To join in a Fun Navigation Rally.
Kitty Hawk, in association with SAPFA and SAGPA will be hosting a fun rally specifally aimed at gyro pilots and their navigators.
The rally will be held according to the SAPF Fun Navigation Rally rules:
http://www.sapfa.org.za/events/Entryadd.php
I have participated in some of these rallies and it really is a tremendous lot of fun.
There is no excuse that your compass doesn't work in a gyro and you have to use GPS.
This day will take you back to the basics and I guarantee you will learn something from the experience.
It's about accurate flying, pilot/navigator communication, eyeball 101 and having fun.
Date: 18 August
Where: FAKT (Kitty Hawk)
Time: Briefing will commence at 09:00
Entry fees: R200 (Payable on the day, rather than the SAPFA Internet banking route) - to cover cost of loggers, maps etc.
Memorable Kitty Hawk Bufffet breakfast R55 - R65.
For those coming in from afar, Avgas will be available at the pumps. If you want mogas, please email me.
We would like to encourage participants to pre-register on http://www.sapfa.org.za/events/Entryadd.php, (the drop-down option for this event has been added)
If you are interested in participating, drop a reply on this thread so that your buddies can see who they have to beat.
Regards
Glen

Me, me, pick me! I am a willing navigator for hire for the event - payment will consist of having fun in the process. Pilots looking for a navigator - I could possibly organise one or two, besides myself. Do consider taking part in this event - the previous one was a really great event. PM me pleeeeze.

Kosie
Can you please give us feedback on your performance last year before we decide, making it back to FAKT would be a great start for instance.

Very valid question Mak.
- We made it to the destination without asking the way, without using GPS
- We in fact managed to beat a group who used a fancy flight computer and had a GPS on board.
- Did however miss a waypoint and some en-route clues
- Don't recall, but I think we made 5th. Not too terrible
- and we managed not to shred our photopages through the prop (no names mentioned)
So there, perhaps not extremly professional, but willing and able and more experienced than last time.

MAK and I will be there. He'll fly and I'll navigate, I think....Groot baklei!
The person who says it can't be done should not interrupt the person doing it.

Guys and girls
Please support this event. I know everyone had a great time last year. Hope to see all of you there, if you are not afraid of this husband and wife team. Kosie, i am sure you will get a pax seat, if you can give an Ausie direction you can get anyone home. Dust off those navigation books, protractors, etc, etc and leave those fancy talking autopilot gps devices at home. Weather for Saturday looks good, see you all there.

Unfortunately the weather wasn't cooperative that day. We did however enjoy a nice brekkie with nice company. Sorry for the keen aviators/navigators that had to wait in the mist at neighbouring fields to try and fly in, hopefully next time.
