Austrian Gyrocopter Makes First Flight

The Trixy Zero flew for the first time on June 30.

July 5, 2012 - Trixy Zero, a motorcycle-style gyrocopter, made its first flight at the airfield of Sachsen-Anhalt's provincial capital Magdeburg, Germany, on June 30, piloted by Trixy Aviation CEO and engineer Rainer Farrag.

"Zero is a little unusual, but yet she rewards with a special feeling of freedom," Farrag said. "And this feeling in this seat configuration is literally breathtaking. The handling is easier than I thought."

The Austrian manufacturer Trixy surprised first-time AERO visitors two years ago with a gyrocopter that was not only flying but already certified in Germany. During this year's AERO in April, Trixy Aviation surprised the audience with an unusual two-seat gyrocopter called Trixy Zero.

The aircraft resembles a motorcycle more than a gyrocopter, and is even powered by the Take-Off's 120-hp, BMW-based motorcycle engine. Trixy Zero is priced at $43,365.

Trixy brought another nearly finished product to Air Magdeburg, the TrixSea. It is an amphibian gyrocopter with two seats in side-by-side configuration. Its maiden flight is planned for this fall.
