Just had the most dificult landing since i stared flying. Yesterday , Centugyro and myself coming back from Kittyhawk at 13hoo. About 5 miles from Springs airfield , the air started getting very unstable. Got overhead the field , and noticed Rainier with a student in the circuit. Did the overhead call. Next moment Rainier came on the radio , informing me to land deep on RW 21 because of gusting winds in the area of the trees close to the runway.
I responded that i would do so. On final i came in high and gradually lost altitude. Being past the trees, and at this stage now approx. 3m above the tarmac , the wind was gusting so heavily , pushing me in different directions , left, right,up and down. Eventualy , i managed to get on the runway , 100m before the end of the runway.
Fortunately , everything went well . But what an experience. One thing i decided , was that i would not even think of cancelling my insuarance in the near future.

That's where the extra airspeed is handy when you land with a trike.

I went for training just as Bonzai pushed his gyro into the hanger. After many many hours on a trike I must admit that landing and flying a gyro in wind like that is awesome and great fun! Not nearly as much trouble as a trike and I found the high wind landings much easier compared to a trike. I REALLY love my trike but VIVA GYRO IN THE WIND!nicow wrote:![]()

Pieter
