gyros at gariep dam

Is anyone able to connect me with any gyro pilots in the Gariep Dam area? I will be passing through briefly on 22nd March and would like to touch base with any fellow gyronauts if time permits. Thanks!

Hi Mike

I have landed there on a few occasions and am not aware of any Gyronauts in the vicinity. However, I can strongly recommend the De Stijl Gariep Dam hotel. Really friendly people. They fetch you from the airfield and take you back at no additional charge, fuel is available on request and the hotel is absolutely stunning! See http://www.destijl.co.za/

You wont regret staying there!

Rgds

Thanks Len. I got the impression that there might be gyro activity from a Google search and a number of sites had the following on them: "Enjoy superb Watersports, Yachting and Fishing or fly at South Africa's number one Microlite & Gyro paradise". Probably means that it's a great place to fly, and seems like it would be fantastic for a fly away! I will be driving up to Durban and overnighting there. Unfortunately already booked at "Rose Cottage". Thanks again and hope to see you soon.

Cheers

Mike

JetRanger,

Is the airfield secure to leave your gyro there overnight ?

Yes VT, they have hangarage for R80 per night but I am told it is safe anyway. There are lots of gliders standing outside there overnight too. Landing fee, R50.
