Re: Gyro Fly-in: Kitty Hawk: 5 December 2009
What a great get-together we had yesterday.
The weather at Kitty Hawk was perfect, although 5 Gyros from Wagtail made the safety call to cancel due to very low mist and a wet runway.
Johan, there will always be a next time, but we missed you.
It is always nice to get the members of the Gyro family together. The conversations seem to continue where we left each other the previous time.
Some fact on the day:
The following Gyro types attended (alphabetically)
Autogyro (Theuns Eloff)
MT-03
MT-OS
And the exiting new Calidus
Ela Aviation (Anthony Cohen)
Ela 07
Ela 08
Magni (Butch Brown)
M16
M22
And the brand new M24 (thanks to Eggbeater to allows us to display his baby)
RAF
RAF200GTX (thanks Macolm from Middelburg)
Sycamore
Three planes attended and Francois performed a perfect precautionary landing after engine power lost just south of Rhine (Glad you are OK)
Xenon (Braam Hechter)
Flynote and I think three more attended
And some fixwings from as far as Ermelo.
We had people driving from Tzaneen and Lydenburg, one Gyro from Hoedspruit, some visitors from KZN, etc……
The restaurant reported 120 people enjoyed breakfast and the Boeriestand sold 74 rolls, just an indication of the attendance.
Thank you to everybody that attended, thanks to the Advisory ATC’s, the restaurant, the Gyro agents, the Trailer guys and Comet Aviation, just to everybody.
An event like this take many calls, e-mails, meetings, but this is all worth the effort if it turns out to such a success.
Until next time………….

Hi All
OK JetRanger - here are mine - unedited except for resizing - hopefully small enough to be acceptable but not quite microdot size. I took them in the early morning with one pass through the flight line so I will have missed some and they are almost all the same with regard composition.

WOW! I am soooo envious!
That Calidus is a BEAUT! Wow wow wow.... so many more people are going to be attracted to the sport because of this beautiful machine!
Can't wait to fly in it.
If its anything as good as the MT0Sports we are flying in Ethiopia then I want one.
(Dunno where I am going to find space in the hangar for my trusty old Sycamore, The M24 and the Calidus but we can dream can't we?)

Re: Gyro Fly-in: Kitty Hawk: 5 December 2009
I echo all the sentiments. Thanx Gerrit and Glen and the rest at Kitty Hawk. It was an awesome day. Food was good, everything was running smooth and the airmanship overall, I thought was brilliant.
Nice meeting Peterb and Flynote.
Pics was taken after some of the gyros left already.
I just need to confess about my oopsie on Saturday, and if the pilots in the blik aerie and the other gyro read this I hope they accept my apology.
I took someone for a flip and we started by taxiing to threshold 19. A blik was in the loop at 19 warming up and while waiting to backtrack the wind turned about 160 degrees. Two gyros in the circuit, with Johnny on advisory on the ground, decided to turn the circuit around. I turned around and taxiid to threshold 01.
Somewhere in this I bumped my radio and it went to the next defined frequency - that of Rhino park. Coming to the threshold, now with the blik, franss, and another gyro behind me, I sat there and waited for a plane calling downwind, and eventually final for rwy 01, not realising he is in the Rhino circuit for 09.
Me and my pax looked frantically for the plane on final. After about five minutes, and still no plane, and about five radio calls with no one answering, I realised radio on wrong frequency. In my haste to correct the frequency, I turned it past Kitty Hawk to special rules east, apologised to everybody at Kitty,
made my call, entered and took off, then heard a call on special rules.
Only then I got the frequency correct.
So to everybody who thought I was warming my plane with three guys behind me - NOT. SORRY.
