GROOT TREK

Postby peterb » Thu Nov 26, 2009 12:48 am

Hey all. Damn I had a dream last night, I dreamt that our Gyro community is planning a world record for the most Gyros ever to take part in a cross country around South Africa starting in the Cape, all the way up to mozambique, then to Namibia and down to the Cape again. we even invited fellow gyronauts from other countries to take part.We named it the Groot Trek
It started me thinking why dont we do it? We have enough big guns in our gyro community that has the know how and expertise to put something like this together.I am sure that something as big as this can even lead to some kind of sponsership as well.
Flynote what do you think of this?
Guys lets hear about your Ideas can something like this be done?
Will there be enough interest or enthusiasm for something like this?

Too late !

Johan Stemmet did it some years back, called it "fly the beloved country".

Even filmed it.

When Johan Stemmet did it, did they go for some kind of mass Gyro Cross country record? How many Gyros took part?

I think you can count on several gyro's from the Western Cape to start the trek!
Keep us posted, we're in! Especially if its for a record attempt.
Trust me when I tell you that the rest of the world considers us to be innovative and leaders in Gyro knowledge here in good old SA. Lets keep it that way!

I think this is a good idea. It would be awesome to do it in conjunction with a bunch of trikes. The gyros can do the reconnaissance due to their higher speed. I would literally resign from my job for the time to do such a trip.

Hi Len, the big guns in the Gyro community should get involved in something like this, we do have events coordinators that have the know how.
I am sure we will have a lot guys that will want to take part in a once in a lifetime event.
I personally think it would be nice if the trikes and fixed wing guys get involved as well.
