Hi All

Well its only about a month before I pack up and leave OZ and make my way to S.A. This coming wekend will probably be the last chance I get to fly my old gyro before it heads of to its new home, so I guess I need to be looking at options for another machine. I dont want to waste anyones time so please be aware this is just an expression of interest not an offer to purchase, I just want to get a feel of what's available in S.A before I make any decisions before leaving OZ. Budget wise I am pretty flexible, basically it will depend it will on what you have on offer. Keeping in mind pilot weight of about 95kg. Let the floodgates open

Gyro flying in South Africa is different to Australia.

1) We don’t have homebuilt’s like Birdy’s wasa in Aus. We live in Africa but aviation is overregulated.
2) You will sit at +- 5300 feet and the temperature can go up to 36 degrees in the summer. The density altitude is quite high.

This means that you are limited to the two seater gyros wit Rotax 914 or Subaru 165 hp
1) ELA
2) Magni
3) RAF
4) MT-03
5) Sycamore
6) Xenon

Thanks T-Bird that all makes a lot of sense, I have been lucky enoughy to of had several gyros, but I guess thay are all what you guys would consider home built. Details as follows.

G2175 - Owen Dull 2 Seater - Rotax 618 - 27 Ft Gerry Goodwin Aluminium Rotors
G198 - Home Built Single Seater - Turbocharged EA81 Subaru - 27 Ft AK Aluminium Rotors
G6500 - Peter Green 2 Seater - EJ20 Subaru - 28 FT Patroney Composite Rotors
My home airfield is about 1000Ft AMSL and in summer can reach temps of up to about 40 Degrees, will upload some photo's once I resize them.

Was going to ask. It would be nice.

Give us an idea of prices, and sommer compare to a popular vehichle - pricewise - for us to get a better idea what you guys pay to fly. Gyros in SA are expensive because of them mainly being propelled by the popular 914.

P.S. You most propably already will be able to speak the boere language when you get here, because half of QZ already using it.

Hope this helps, as you can see things here in OZ are are little more relaxed. Gyro's here are self regulated by
The Australian Sports Rotorcraft Association (ASRA) and answer to the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA). The system works very well and we have very strict guidelines that apply to two seat aircraft and there compliance.

The only problem is our height above sea level
If we assume the QNH is 1025
You are flying at 1000 feet at 40 degrees then density altitude would be 3 766 feet.

In our case
5300 feet 36 degrees then our density altitude is 8 433 feet.
