Gyro Info

Postby OzGyro » Mon Sep 14, 2009 3:46 pm

Hi All

Just wondering if anybody can offer some assisstance and info re gyro flying not to far from the Johannesburg area and licence requirements in South Africa. I currently live in Perth Australia and am transferring to Johannesburg for 2 years for a work contract in approximately 4 weeks. I currently hold a Australian Sport Rotorcraft Association licence with approximately 70 hours flying time. Is there anywhere I can do a type conversion, ELA, Magni or MT03 and be able to hire a gyro after succesful completion??. I have also been reading some recent posts in regared to type certifacation in S.A and have noticed several references to ASRA our local regulating authority here in Australia. If there is anything I can do to help or any information I can bring with me when I come over I woulde be more than happy to assist. Look forward to to catching up with some of the gyro locals in my new adoptive home.

Regards
Darren

Damn pity you're not coming to Cape Town OzGyro ... for many reasons... the most important 3 are

A) its Paradise
B) We can do all the things you want in Cape Town with regard to Gyro's
C) Its Paradise
:)

I'm sure the JHB/Pretoria guys will take good care of you none-the less. They're a good bunch.

Welcome and fly safe

Welcome to South Africa (soon if not here already).

School owned Gyros are few and far between, and to hire these are even more dificult, but not imposible.....

I heard that the guys from 303 Squardron will soon have a school MT available, not sure about hire and fly, but let them decide.

Contact Mathew Zalewski at gmzal@netactive.co.za.

As long as you come and visit us at Kitty Hawk.

Good Day Sir.

The initial person to make contact with is Pierre. He is at pierre@raasa.co.za. He has just gone through the exercise for a German visitor. You can see what Raasa is doing by going to http://www.raasa.co.za. You will need to bring copies of the relevant documents for him to peruse.

You can also look on the webpage http://www.sagpa.co.za for some of the instructors, and where they operate from. You can then choose someone near to where you will be staying. There are gyros available for renting at some schools, depending on the insurance.

Forward me your skype and i will contact you as soon as possible.

Greetings

Welcome Ozzie.

Do you know where in Johannesburg you will reside. This will help cause Jo'burg is about the size of England.

For training or conversion go to Springs hanger 21, there is +- 21 Gyro's in the hanger.

Contact the CFI Reinier after the weekend he is currently on a Gyro trip in Namibie , they are flying the highest sand dunes in the world today at Sosiasvlei.

His number +27 eight 2 448 5496

Johannesburg is very cenrtral and you can spend every weekend in the Bushveld with your gyro if that is what you prefer.

Edenvale is not that bad for the East rand  , and a hop, skip and jump from the Springs and Brakpan airfields where you can speak to either Reinier or Matthew respectively, both very competent. Also close to Pretoria -30 min - where we also have quite a gyro fraternity.

Bushveld is 100 to about 500 km north of Jo'burg, and where we love to escape to. (^^) ($$) (^^)

Welcome to South Africa, you will hopefully have some really enjoyable times here. I know the guys at Wagtail ( 10 km from Parys airfield ) have 8 of their own gyros ( Magni. ELA, Kriek and Sycamore ) in the hanger. Last time I counted there were 32 gyros in their hanger...some weird ones like a single seater, a UFO and a 400 hp "monster"...I have hired a gyro from them in the past.
