On Jun 22 2009, an Ela 07 gyroplane flew directly from Spain peninsula to the Canary island.
- The TWO new records ( pending to be validated by FAI) will be maximum distance 1307 km, the previous one was 1269 km over Australia, and average speed 161 km/h, previous was 156 km/h
Go with some facts:
- The fuel was in total, 221.8 liters, 73 liters in the gyro tank, 128.8 liters in the tank for crop spray application that become auxiliary tank, and a extra of 20 liters to be safe.
- The plan was to be prepare for a 10 hour flight at 20 liters per hour.
- The maximum MTWO need to be equal or less than 500 kg. to be consider within the light gyroplane category for the record.
- The ship was weighted by FAI representative the morning of the flight, the weight was 500 kg. it was within limits. The backup plan was replaced the professional emergency inflatable/life raft( 5.4 kg) by a kids raft ( 3 kg of savings).
- The flight took at the end only 8 hours and 7 minutes, and the remaining fuel was 48 liters. At least two flight hours more, but not place to land in the middle of the Atlantic sea.
- Half of the way was alone, 500 km. the SAR aircraft was not available. The surveillance was taken by commercial flights that say hello to him. It is busy airway from Europe to Canary Islands, because many people go there for holidays.
- The second part was a SAR aircraft at 20.000 ft watching him. The last km a SAR helicopter flight close to him and also gyros from Canary Island joined.
- Top speed was 105 MPH.
