Thanks Slysi.

Felt like quite a whilst actually. Now i need to do my solo hours as quick as possible. I want my license! Weather very crap in Cape town lately! Booked for tomorrow morning and Saterday morning at Aerosport.

I would like to know up to what knot ground wind speed will it be acceptable/managable to do solo flying? 10knts still ok?

a 10knt wind is strong - especialy if a cross wind - I am comfortable with 10knts down the runway or 5 knots cross

Hi Wallaby

Yes the wind was very bad lately. I have done 5 solo hours to date. All have been in the circuit I am affraid. Atleast I am a master with landing and taking off by now! vhpy Thus only needing 10 more hours my instructor said I first have to write at least 2 exams before I can continue with my flying. Plus after that he wants to fly out with me to the GF before I go there on my own. Hope to finish the license before end of Feb!

Must admit staying in the circuit so long has dampened my flying spirit a bit. Plus I heard me and the wife is expecting our first baby so I allmost sold the trike to buy a boat. Came to my senses and decided to at least keep the trike to the end of this year.

Cheers
Karl

Karl.
There is only a very slight difference in the tone of a pink foot and a 503 at full revs. !
I remember cautioning you against getting that despondent feeling of getting dizzy in the circuit!!!!
It is a small price to pay --hang in there.
Fly safely.

Need to agree Graham. The difference though, is that when you take your foot of accelerator, the 503 tends to be not as noisy any more!!

Hi Karl

Don't get despondent. The circuit's great experience and safe. There's a reason for all the training... get it over with and enjoy the flying. Believe me it's a lot better to experience any big bumps under the watchful eye of an instructor rather than bending something in an outlanding. I had a good instructor and don't regret a minute of the training.

Karl, I have been watching your progress, frustration and elation from a distance these past few months.

NOOIT!

You have gone this far and are over the hump, qualifying and being set free to do cross-countries and fly-aways is even more fun than going solo, believe me!
Don't even consider giving up until you have completed the course and enoy the freedom of pushing your own trike out to go where ever you want, whenever you want!

Congratulations on the news of the imminent pink-foot, can't see why that should influence whether you continue to fly or not. With Louis as your instructor, you will learn that there is no compromise when it comes to safety. Stay within your own abilities and NEVER push the envelope. Always remember, if there is doubt, there is no doubt, err on the side of safety and you have nothing to worry about.

Good luck and fly safe

Yep, good thing you're keeping the aerie. Remember the last 10 hours are over before you can imagine it. And you'll see that you will remember more of what Louis thaught you ( What are you doing???? Cant you see what you are doing?? You'll get yourself killed!! and a lot more ($$) ($$) ($$) ($$) (**) .) than what you learn from your handbook. When you're in a crisis, you'll only remember Louis ( Yelling- not so hard though  ) and hopefully you will instinctively do what your instructor thaught you.

And after all, you cannot give up on a dream (Flying) ! So go and get that exams done and go and get out of the circuit. Although the busy circuit at FAFK will teach you much confidence because there are so many aeries around you and you have to be much more vigilant and it makes you more comfortable with radio procedures.

Congrats on the baby and by that time you'll have you're license and you'll have the perfect environment to escape to when you have to get away from home for a few hours  .

Good luck.

Circuit training does tend to demotivate one a bit, but once you venture out of the circuit on your own........

Trust me the flight test then comes faster than you can imagine............and then s040.

The best feeling in the world was to push my plane out of the hangar, without someone looking over my shoulder and just go into the blue wonder.
