Wanting to go RPL / MPL

Postby Pat Two » Mon Apr 21, 2008 3:18 pm

Hi,

Please can someone help. I am currently an SPL with 35 hours towards my PPL. I have been pondering what would be involved in going MPL at this time. I know I will have to the type rating on a trike and basically become a student again. I have flown trikes before (I have about 10 hours). I am quite comfortable with the gen on the machines.

PPL type flying is becoming prohibitevly expensive.

Do I get any credit for my PPL hours? (All of these hours were done on a Tecnam Echo and a Piper Tomahawk.) I have been on my dual short xcounrty. Anyone please help...I need to fly.

Thanks
Pat

Ok ok...I think I have the 35 hour impatience....I'll finish the PPL first. Still, I'm going to get the MPL convex when I'm done with the PPL.. Thanks for the input..

:? :? :?

Anyways...Microlighters is now my forum of choice.. I subscribed to another forum. People make a forum. Pleasant people = pleasant forum. Unpleasant people = Unpleasant forum.

Cheers,

Hi Pat,

Obviously the PPL is the most expensive lisence to get and maintain. This all will depend on your own desires. If you want to fly a trike, yes get your MPL, but if you want to stick to 3-axis, rather do a conversion an a jabiru, or samba, or even a cheetah that is PPL rated. By doing this, you will be flying "microlights", and have the cost efficiency on your side, and be able to fly your hours you'll need to maintain your PPL.

Rather do one lisence and keep it current, than having to run around for two licenses and have all in place. But as I said, it is all up to what your desire is. Go and talk to your current instructor to get a list of aircraft that is PPL rated to make a better informed decision. My vote goes into finishing your PPL, other wise you will lose a lot money.

Safe flying.

I also stopped doing PPL at 27.6 hours and changed to MPL. Result = R34000.00 down the drain   .
Because I did not complete the PPL, none of the hours count towards the MPL. Am enjoying the microlight flying more than I did the Piper Cherokee. vhpy

Good advice from everyone. Finish your PPL, you're nearly there, then just do a conversion onto any three-axis microlight, open cockpit or closed.

Hey Guys

I am in the same boat here - just finishing off a PPL and then wanting to consider the MPL route to keep it current (3 axis) but have also flown numerous hours in Windlass trike etc. On my trips out to the GF I hear and see microlights operating in the White hills / Blue hills area - (just north of the K'dorp highway - near the chicken farms and power substation) This is relatively close to where I live (Fourways) and was wondering about a recommendation for a microlight school in the area?

Any ideas?

Thanks
