Botswana Wannabe

Postby jblaverick » Mon Aug 25, 2014 8:00 pm

Dear all,

I wonder if you could help a prospective pilot with some basic questions?

I live and teach in Botswana and have saved for some years and now can afford a light aircraft plus training. I did start on a PPL in the UK many years ago, but got married! I also have had a few flights in weight shift microlights. My only aim is to be able to cruise around Botswana during my holidays with my wife and I am edging towards something like a Bantam for my 40th birthday.

My questions are:-

I have a window between the 18 April and the 16th of May next year, while my wife stays with friend in Port Alfred. Is it possible to do the NPL in such a space of time? Where in the area would people recommend? What are the main obstacles?

How recognized is this licence abroad? Do you know anybody who uses it Botswana? Or has converted here? Does having a UK passport pose any problems?

I am only interested in flying light aircraft, but given the wider recognition of the PPL would you advise that instead?

Could you give a (very rough!) idea of the costs of both CCM and PPL?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Jonathan

Jonathan,

I had similar questions recently and ended up with this list someone sent me. You will probably be best off posing those questions directly to an Instructor close to where you want to train.

Also Komati Flight Academy now at Petit, Benoni. Not Komatipoort.
