Great news Sue - I fly on other side of mountain at Aeroden, will pop in
I can honestly say that I believe you instruct in the most scenic area in the entire Jhb/Pretoria/Brits area - Can imagine that it will be a pleasure to learn to fly in Hekpoort - Maak my eintlik lus om die Bantam te leer vlieg!
Cheers

Re: NEW FLYING SCHOOL HEKPOORT MAGALIESBURG
All the encouragement from you guys is super. I really think we need to get back to the old style type of training-seems to me things have got so serious and conformist! We used to have such fun and thats what my aim is only this time in a Bantam.[Tooo old for trikes now]Would be so cool if the authenticity of learning to fly could replace the intimidation of herrendously over legislated requirements for such a simple recreational sport.I believe in my heart this legislation has not contributed to safety, although i have to admit the overall standards of the training facilities have improved (from long drop to propper loos) as required by the Manual of Procedures! In the 20years i have been around no one has yet to tackle the practical do's and dont's of how the instructors actually teach. Instead the authorities insist on 10 hours of "patter" an outdated form of parrot fashion babble supposedly meant to communicate the intricacies of flying to a student.Teaching is a fine art determined by communication, experience and people skills,it is the heart of the matter, and done passionately comes closest to influencing safety in recreational flying NOT how complicated you make the paperwork requirements.

Well done Sue for your honesty and practical approach to this ever debated subject.
We all know that safety cannot be compromised and we are logged in to this website because we enjoy flying. We are not B747 (maybe some) guys and not conducting 'revenue flights' so lets keep things simple.RAASA as we know are doing a great job and lets not be intimidated by the CAA beaurocrats, who after all should be on our side.
Simple, fun flying is what we are all looking for.(Please no more requests for us to "FLY SAFE" 'cause who in their right mind does'nt??)
And,yes I am biased. Sue did my conversion and sorted me out in no time.
Regards,
goldie

The great thing about getting older is that you don't have to prove yourself anymore.

Well done Sue and best of luck!
Now if you guys will only join us on a Bantam outride some time it will be great!
You are making me "lus" to complete my instructors rating - as I often have to take people up and demo the Bantam! Have taught my 15 yeard old son almost everything I've leart on the Bantam and flying in genreal since I started back in 1985.
I'm hoping to complete my "patter" with Pierre from Rustenburg soon.
Keep in touch....and safe flying!!
