Ideally you should not know when you are going to go solo.

Your instructor is preparing you perfectly for that moment, when he feels you are ready he is going to tell you to stop on the runway, get out, take his headset with him, pat you on the back and tell you to go for one circuit.

No time to fret or panic, relax and do exactly as you have been taught.

Have fun

Usually goes something like this.

instructor will tell you, you are progressing well, but need some "consolidation hrs". You will feel K@K because you thought it was going quiet well. Then you take deep breath and head out to the aerie... You do the checks with a heavy heart since this dam flying thing is now costing more than it fun. the instructor (knowingly) is chirpy as hell and you fell like giving him a klap.

"lets do a circuit to strat before we head out to the GF".

Ho Hum, Same old same old. Checks, radio, up and away. "See I can fly dis thing you old fart" you think. he smiles back knowingly... You pull off a greaser and he says "OK let's go" and off you go again. Somewhere round left base he says let's make this one a full stop. " Ja old fart now needs a wee" you think... he he he serves him right for keeping me dual...

So you land and taxi to hangar. Before you shut down he says 'Cheers, Enjoy AND DON'T BEND MY AEROPLANE'

WTF. Now you break out in cold sweat, suddenly you don't remeber a thing. Breath is short and heart is beating faster than the RATTEX..... Is this Ou MAL....

You do all the checks 3 times and then a 4th just to make sure even though the same reult every time. Then on radio instrucotr says "Don't forget to 'haal asem"... and Enjoy it...

All goes according to plan save that the aerie climbs like a fart in a bath. After landing (1 circuit only) you don't remember much. The baaabelaaas is also a huge one....

ENJOY......

PS
If you know you going to go solo, then there is little to worry about. The destructor will NOT let you loose unless you have proved to him that you will retun his aerie in 1 peace ( ). If it your own aerie WORRY

PPS
Chirp about own aerie is a joke

In my case I knew I was going solo on a particular day (was just waiting for my student licence), I felt ready for it and couldn't wait! A flight you will never forget for sure. And the trike just jumped into the air! 503 and all... vhpy

It is like any other day.....except the trike are more responsive. It will "jump" into the air (it is happy vhpy ) if you don't catch it.

Enjoy it!!!!

It was AWESOME! Did some tests with the new instructor, got back to the airfield and he said "go do it"...

I almost hurled in the cockpit - legs were shaking so much I struggled to taxi in a straight line (I was in a C172), but once I rotated my training took over and I had a awesome flight. Training, training, training...... ($$) ($$)

The real challenge for me was my first solo cross country - 350 NM on my ace...

Baie dankie!

Hannes, she is not too far off from doing it! I guess she has another hour or two to get through, and then I will have to fight her for the pilot seat in the trike
