HI Chris
Why dont you buy your own trike, its much more cost effective, especially during your training. I bought a Hornet for R30 000 converted it to dual for training (R500)and have done all my training at half the price.I know it is not a new up to date smart trike, but it has a big 18sqm high lift wing and the 503 carried me and my instructor (me 116kg and instruc 68 kg) without missing a beat. It cost me R360 per hour for the training, so what I saved probably paid for half the trike. I have done my solo with it and will fly it every friday and saturday. I am now in the process of getting a 582 and will be sorry the day that I sell the Hornet. What I am trying to say that it is not such an expensive sport as the non flyers (and some wives) trying to make out. Unless you want something with all the bells , whisstles, aircon, power stearing, abs and electric windows you can buy a reliable, save, cheap trike. Just take your instructor or someone who knows with when you do.

I have been advised to break my hornet up when Im selling as I would get more for the engine (230hrs), DX2 avionics, radio, wheels and wing (windlass), then i would if i sell the trike as a unit for R25000. So it actually was an investment for me

The nice thing about having your own is that you can fly whenever you want to (wheather permitting) and dont have to wait in a cue if no planes are available.

This all is depending on finance, and I was lucky to have a bit of money spare to do it. But it was worth every cent!

But whatever you do, buy , rent, steal, but dont stop flying.! ( OK I was joking about the stealing part)

Boomerang was lucky and I bet you will not be able to do that now. Your trike must be registered as a training trike. Your ATF must say that it will be use for training. CAA will come out to inspect the trike and I can tell you now a R30K trike with a 503 no matter in how good condition is not likely to pass the test. :( :(

Why would that be? I have seen some 503 Windlasses being used for training which were for sale for R35K?
