This is a good (free) book

Postby Jimbo » Sun Aug 16, 2009 7:51 am

Morning all,

I don't fly for real but I do a lot of flying from books! One day when I win the Lotto, we'll see....

Meantime I was browsing the 'net yesterday and came across a book by a guy called John Denker (no, not Denver of "Country roads" fame), imaginatively named "See how it flies". As well as being a comm pilot and instructor, this guy's a PhD in physics, and among other things he explains how an aerofoil* works with great pictures- he wrote a wind tunnel simulator for the PC which shows timed flow of air over the wing. He's a really good writer- explains things excellently.

* He's a Seppo ## , so he calls it an airfoil vhpy

Here's the link http://www.av8n.com/ Each chapter is a long html page, so I just did a "Save page as..." for each chapter to save the whole book.

Hi Jimbo

Thank you for that post (^^) I am always looking for info on flying, and tap into other peoples knowledge.
No need to re-invent the wheel.

Hope you win the lotto soon, then you can put into action what you learned reading on the net.
By the way, what would you like to fly?

I like the look of the ZU types with real wings hehe- Bushbaby, Savannah, that kind of thing. (And a front wheel....)

Reading Boet's and Oupa-G's build stories makes me green, not that I'd want to try to build anything. I'd like to take my Lotto winings to someone like KFA, and say "Here's a cheque, call me when it's ready" 8)

(Mind you, before I paid for an aircraft, I'd need to pop past Rand and drop off a cheque to get a school to send me a licence first (!!) )
