Thanks for the intrest. vhpy

Marius and I arrived at Rhino more or less at the same time. He said that we should rather wait and see what the weather does.. It was looking grim.

We hung around and had a chat with Rudix and went to have a look at his toys. Some very lekke toys there I must say. The weather then seemed to be taking a break and Marius said he'll go up to hve a look. I preflighted the trike and taxied it to the area in front of the flight school (my first solo taxy vhpy).

Marius went up and did a pass over 03 where he indicated to me that it was bumpy. Marius then landed and taxied in. I was sooooo happy when he said, "It's bumpy, but we can go."

I ran to the office to get a cushion to put behind my back to aid throttle control (it worked magic, I am relatively short). We taxied out and got airborne off 03. It was bumpy... vhpy. We elected to route south of the field initially for some turns. Marius left me to "play" with EXC. It was great. Further to this I tried to fly a block of a farmers land. This was fun as the wind was blowing us off course on every line that I flew. Trying to keep the trike flying on a straight line was a bit of a challenge, but fun, oh yes indeed. We then needed to get down to more serious business. Precautionary landings. This was not unfarmiliar to me as I had covered this in my PPL training. It was nice to refresh it though.

Back to Rhino we went for some tough and go's. The wind was not kind at all. Marius showed me that it is possible to land the trike in a crosswind..I honestly thought that trikes were no wind / fair weather machines... it turns out that if you stick to your aircraft and your own limits, these machines are capable of some impressive things.

I would like to think that the touch and go's went off ok'ish... the cushion helped a heck of a lot to get full throttle!!!

All and all a lesson with a lot learnt. Next time, I expect some more T&G's as well as stalls, should the weather permit.

Ciao J

Hi J,

Was nice meeting you on Saturday !

Yes, the weather was not great, I flew a few circuits and then decided to call it a day after getting a bit of rain on downwind. Saw you guys having some fun in the wind, looked good from the ground (^^)

Till next time,
Rudi

Excellent - flying in not ideal weather during training is the best - at least then when it sneaks up on you it's not something to be scared of. Nicely done. When's the next one.

At this point it looks like Saturday 07/02 or Sunday 08/02.

I could lean towards Sunday, as I am invited to go and fly in a Chipmunk and Tiger Saturday 07/02.

Cheers,
Jaco

Eish long gaps between. I would never have made it. While I was doing training the only thing I wanted to do was fly again the next day.

Same here Stephan. Unfortunately my personal situation dictates that I have an on duty and off duty weekend . Every second weekend is on duty. I don't mind, I know the gaps are far apart... But I love my kids and I need to spend time with them too. vhpy

I used to fly early on week mornings - and get around 1 to 1.3 hours in three times a week initially before work. If I only had weekends I would have gone nuts. I really feel for you in that situation. Strongs.

He he...

You are right it was awesome!!

Marius and I elected to fly to Microland from Rhino. What an awesome flight! Almost no bumps, it was perfect. Marius then said that we should do some circuits at microland. 03 is  short and those wires...eish.. A tad itimidating, but it all went well (I think). We flew 3 circuits at Microland - 2 on 03 and 1 on 09. Very nice. Landings are getting better, getting the knack of flaring closer to the ground. Our landing back at Rhino was a sweetie.. This is actually the first lesson where Marius and I did not have to compete with wind and weather, it was great! vhpy vhpy

Now standing on 4 hours dual..

I cannot wait for my next one!

Cheers,
Jaco
