If you are not training come out to Aviators Paradise for a flip, the gliders are always in need of someone to retrieve their dolly and I hate flying with an empty back seat!

I fly to CT via Mango on Saturday and due back on the 17th, get in touch if you want to fill up my empty backseat for a scenic flight!

Flying came very natural to me. I did spend many many many hours on flight sim but rigged my self up with pedals and the works. I started flying radio control planes, went to a club, went solo in my second lesson. The instructor could not believe it.

By the time I started flying for real it was very easy. I was pressurising my instructor to send me solo at 4.5 hours. But the sky and flightsim are not the same thing. You cannot simulate bad weather, turbulance etc.

I believe you Trike boys are at a disadvantage because all forms of simulation are 2 or 3-axis based. A trike is so completely opposite that it should take the brain a little longer to click.

However they are all fun.

Moose, do yourself a favour, don't try to count the cost per hour. I know you are young and possibly need the funds to come from your parents etc, but the best thing is to do as the others have said, agree to budget on R20,000, somehow get hold of the money, (loans, nice parents, bank robbery   . This way your training will not be limited to a lesson a month, and then go for it, I know you can do it 8)
Same here Morph man

I also started on r/c aircraft, did it for 13 years prior to me starting my "real earie" training. It also came quite naturally......, or so I think! :? :? :? But don't quote me on this....

Ditto morph, Dad and smiley.

Most difficult part for me was the looooong time between solo and license. (Almost 15 months due to ltd budget    ) It hard to motivate yourself to go bash the Red & White for the unteenth time practising turns, stalls etc, esp when budget it tight.

Keep at it and don't loose sight of the ultimate goal. Everyone hit's a wall somewhere in their training. Some at the begining and some at the end, but the rewards are worth it....

I got a credit card with limit = what I could spend a month on flying rather than pay deposit. In hindsight a great idea as FTC where I did my PPL went bellyup (albit after I finished, but none the less). Pay as you go and plan to fly at regular intervals else retraining from last lesson could become frustrating...

PS
Above was for PPL. MPL was another story. Am sure my trike instructor still has nightmares about my 'flare' and my Rydaar feet in x wind    (FYI All controls for trike are opposite and it does not have a rudder to keep centreline during landing phase...)

Try sqweeze 5 lessons a week, preferbly early morning, coz it's rainy season and you're sure to get cancelled sometime. Also push for the radio licence a.s.a.p.

Once you're comfortable, ask your instructor to do the dual nav, preferably on a Sat and to a fly in. Breaks the circuit monotany and then you'll see what it's all about.
