I curruntly hold a PPL and have aquired a rating via conversions on microlights. Weight shift as well as 3-axis.
My hours flown on fixed wing is 126 and total microlight hours 82. What do I need to do from here to aquire a MPL grade C instructors rating. The powers that be at CAA have given answers from "your ppl hours do not count at all" to " I will get back to you" to "what is a Grade C lisence". I have about 15hrs intstrument time logged and 4 of the 8 required commercial pilots lisence subjects as credit.

You need a current PPL and at least 100hr's as PIC of a microlight to qualify. Contact Geoff Dyer or the bunch at light flight. Search the net for teir website.

No, I don't think that is correct, you need 200 hours microlight PIC, 15 hours patter and a test. I am not sure but I think your PPL hours will count.
I am busy with the patter bit

KFA Is correct. 100hours PIC on microlight with PPL, and you have a go to do instructors. Obviously then the patter hours and test flight.

Re: Intsructors Rating MPL
he he he
I would like some clarity on this. (Been trying since 2005
)
I have the required hrs on a 3 axis microlight aerie, but I was signed out by PPL instructor so CAA tell me my MPL has expired as I do not have the req'd MPL hours. I is confused - Would instructor in Jhb who is willing to hold my hand through the 3 axis MPL instructors PLEASE contact me. I would like to do it ASAP so that I can convert to RPL/Sport licence etc when it arrives... rather than then start from scratch...
PS
I have spoken to Geoff, Dave and all the KZN guys, the Boarder Aviation guys as well as the CT based guys, but NO1 in JHB wants to even return my calls....
The oukes byda sea are most helpful, but I can't take the time off work to go to them to do the course/patter etc. If I need to do additional hrs NO PROBLEM, but I don't want to do them and then I am left to my own devices...

Hmmmm, somewhere there is a problem...... 2 different CFI's have told me the 200 hour MPL bit, and NO PPL needed, I am almost done and one other guy just got his papers.....
Now who is wrong ?
Regards,
Rudi
PS, I know a few MPL instructors without PPL's !

Re: Intsructors Rating MPL
Ok, here it is, from the MISASA web page:
"Microlight instructor rating requirements
* If you are the holder of an MPL you need at least 200 hours.
* If you are the holder of a PPL you need at least 100 hours on microlights.
* You should have flown a cross country of at least 500 kms.
* You will need to attend a ground school that covers the normal six subjects - principles of flight, meteorology, air law, navigation, engines and airframes and human performance limitations, in some detail. Emphasis will be placed on a seventh most important subject namely Principles of Flight Instruction. You will then write exams on the above.
* You will need to fly the required PATTER hours with an A grade instructor.
* You will then need to pass an instructors flight test with an A grade instructor other than the one that did your patter.
If you believe you have above average flying skills and have the will to instruct you should then contact an established microlight school that does instructor courses.Any enquires can be directed through MISASA to the current head of training Geoff Dyer on 082 331 1104 or see www.lightflight.co.za"
So, you do not have to have a PPL

Re: Intsructors Rating MPL
Yip. Don't need PPL. If you have PPL you only need 100hrs MPL vs 200 hrs MPL if you have no PPL...
