student pilot to PILOT!!!

Postby extra300s » Tue Jun 17, 2008 7:08 am

What a weekend this was for me (!!)

It started with Harlequin (thanks again Graham!!!) taking me for my very first lesson on Saturday morning. Sat in the front seat and he gave me the controls after a short whilst. Went between or close two koppies so that I could feel the bumps generated at the back of it. Then over to Atlantis 4x4 track were I was demonstrated tto he capabilities of a trike with 582 motor, that was way cool (lets just say we marked our tracks deep in the sky). Then over for some low level flying over the beach. All the low and fast stuff Harlequin did off coarse.

Then yesterday Trygve took my up for a long flight of 2:15hours. I did the following. Light 360 degree turns, medium 360 and 180 degree turns, descending medium turns, climbing slow turns. Then I practiced stalls (first one where did it was scary when he pushed the bar all the way forward and that nose just dropped - was how ever very surprised with how quickly the wing corrected itself)

All in all I did over 3 hours in one weekend. Still got lots to learn. You realize very quickly that this is no game. Looking very forward to my next session.

Just over a month on the forum was enough for me to go and do it for real now. Always wanted to do some sort of (real) flying. The forum upped my appetite for sure vhpy

Cheers, and thanks for all the advice and encouragement guys
Karl

Well done young man. Keep us updated. It helps those who are still procrastinating to get off their arses and into the sky (^^)

Flyboy

It was close to hour 3 and it all depends on the skills of the student I will say... Some take 30hours to do MPl and some 25hours. Not everyone comes right quickly ect. Please don't just go on hear say.

Who and where do you train?

Hi Karl,

Glad you had some time up. Saturday was one of the best flying days ever in cape town. Although the wind was doing 10-15 mph, it was smooth, very smooth. You have a PM.

Agreed! Still got allot to learn. What I do know is that pollitics put me off big time. Lets just keep it light and have a good time in the sky. Will keep my training progress to myself then.

Enjoy your flying as I'am mine.

Don't piss on this young man's battery please. We don't need this sort of attitude here. Fit in or piss off, your choice

Extra300s, you are in the hands of two very competent instructors, who are fully cappable of deciding when to teach you stalls. Many very good pilots have been trained by them. Enjoy your training

Karl,

Great to hear you enjoyed your first hours so much & can't wait for you to get your licence and trike so that you can fly with us.

I did my conversion with Trygve and he is highly recommended. If you look at the trike fanatics in the Western Cape, most either trained with Trygve, or are hangared at Wintervogel. Not only will you get the best training with Trygve, you will also partake in the best hangar talk at FAWF.

So what if Trygve showed you stalls at 3 hours? You also must ask him to do as many hours as possible in windy weather, so that you don't get a fright later on.

Of course the politics is undesirable - but luckily in the Western Cape it is only between those who make a living from microlights. However, as individuals they are all decent guys.

Thanks guys.

Yesterday late morning was quite bad weather. And we still went out Gert. I flew in very bumpy conditions for about 20min until we went to 3000 feet to do some proper air work. Trike got blown about quite a bit. Thought of you guys that might get stuck at Saldana with the bad weather. Glad all went well.

Looking forward to the training and meeting more trike pilots!

I thought I would wean you in slowly!!!!! After showing you the basics and seeing your capabilities I had a chat with Trygve. The deep end is for the big fish so not a bad place to start. Keep it up.
As I discussed, Trygve and I will do training that complements you, your ability to grasp the basics and the theory bits.
Hope the weather allows us up on the weekend.
Fly safely.

Graham.
