Question?
How do you know if aircraft is reg aircraft as ML? All mine just say NTSC? Where would I look?
Have a look at your authority to fly. For a microlight it reads: "Authority to fly for a Microlight, Amateur Built, not certified productions built and kit built aircraft"
I don't think this helps. The ATF for my SportStar which is registered as a light aircraft says exactly the same thing. When you apply for Registration, PFA and ATF, there is nowhere on the forms where you specify you would like the aircraft registered as microlight or light aircraft. Who decides...dunno.

The EuroStar (only one in SA at the moment) we had has 2 designators, X291 and Z"something". The X designator was given originally because I flew it with a PPL. Now it's flown by an MPL and their licence shows the Z designator. I have never asked CAA to change the aircraft from a light aircraft to a microlight. In addition, a "PPL" instructor converted the MPL pilot onto the type, which was acceptable to CAA. It all boils down to more typical CAA BS.

Agreed. That the way I have it as well.

Question:
How do you log the hrs? X or Z & can you log them either way. Need some PPl hrs for currency log as X, then MPL log as Z?

Confusing as hell..... :?

Isn't it cheaper and more feasible for you to do a non-IF Comm and then instructors rating rather than going the microlight route? As far as I know, you can then instruct on any NTCA. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

TIME is the key. It not much cheaper as I have most of the required hrs for both, just need the instruction. ML instructors course can at moment be done without com subjects (part 62 will change that), so it far simpler to get (not necessarily easier or lower standard, just less BS) than COM/Instructors... Yip in theory it would be better, but not necessarily cheaper as I would need to write the comm exams. (all excl. IF test). Been trying to do that for last 6 years.    My business (self employer, so no work no eat) & familiy committments (4 small kids) do not allow for full time (6-9week) course and I have tried the part time thing, but it very difficult to study when on the move. (I sleep away from home at least 3/4 nights a week).

For ML instructors I just need to do the patter and a couple days instructors course, if I can get the ML hrs issue resolved. Even if I can't I can do 100hrs in the cubby in couple a weeks, but get the patter out the way in the mean time...

COM/IF is the long term plan but it not going to realistically happen in the short term. I had delusions of grandeur of going Charter route, but I am     to see the cash they earn. I can't afford to go the 'HARD WAY TO EARN AN EASY LIVING' route..

Where exactly does the aircraft registration stipulate the X or Z code - and is it possible then to register the same physical aircraft in both? to satisfy both MPL & PPL pilots with the X code weight advantage....

Asked CAA ame question and got a blank stare. Seems it is dictated by who does the instruction. If MPL instructor then Z, if PPL instructor it X? I can't fina anything on my reg doc's? :?: :?: :?:

I have technam on license as X299, but they also do MPL on same aerie?
