The aviation bug has bitten me.
I looked at doing a PPL,but it is too expensive for me.
My next option is to go into microlights as i flew with someone before and it was awesome!!
Later on i can always convert to a PPL from MPL.
I am looking for a club/airfield/training school near Randburg.
Lanseria will be ideal, but i dont think they do microlights there.
Does anyone know of a good school closeby.
I've noticed that there is a airfield in Honeydew on the way to the N14,but not sure if it is private?
Looking forward to your recommendations.
Regards,
Hanno

Re: New to Microlights
Hi there, welcome to Microlighting!
I'm also based in Randburg, but found the only place I could get proper training was out in Bapsfontein.
Try either Sky Riders at Microland (011) 964 1112 / 083 4007622, or Rhino Park, where I'm doing my training.
Contact Alex Rudd there on 082 568 8635. Both excellent flying schools.
Hope to see you there!

Hi Venus,
i also live in Randburg and did my flight training at Centurin Flight Centre, based in Manandi just off the N14 - contact Flo Momberg 0826662000 grade A instructor. Closest flight centre to Randburg for mpl,
Hope this can help you.

Re: New to Microlights
Get the details/recommendations of a few places and then go visit them. Make sure that you get that warm fuzzy feeling before handing over your money. Recommendations from friends, other pilots or this site etc are a start point, but make sure the school suits you.

Hi Venus
I also did my trining at Centurion Flight Center. It is close to Lanseria and probably the closets to Randburg. Stop by one day and come check it out. We fly out of Ingwe Airfield jsut accross the road of Centurion Flight Center.

Welcome to Aviation,
To set the cat amongst the microlights..... i dont see you specifying whether you prefer three axis or trikes. If trikes then Flo at Mnandi is a great option - little further towards harties is Aeroden - Basie Langenhoven, great trike instructors... if its three axis your looking for try cross winds or Aviators Paradise with Udo...
Just a tip - I live in Fourways/North Riding and used to train at Rhino for a good few months. I love Rhino as a venue and the okes there are legendary but be aware that from fourways/randburg its a moer of a long way. Trust me its no fun getting up at three thirty collecting fuel etc getting all the way out there (an hour at least with no snags) to pre flight and be ready for an early take off to find out that you cant fly because its to windy.. it gets old FAST. I repeat, its an awesome airfield but its far. Training at somewhere like harties or flo allows you to have a midweek lesson as well when the time affords. Try getting from anywhere fourways/midrand based to Rhino on a weekday afternoon...

Hi,
We stay in Northcliff and travel to Panorama airfiled, just outside of Brackendowns. All in all, great club, great instructors and a great atmosphere. My wife and I have just recently started training there, and it takes us 20 minutes to travel there on the concrete highway.
Please give Marc Gregson a call on 0 8 2 392 3149, my instructor.
