Mayday

Postby Biggles » Tue Jun 02, 2009 5:15 pm

Been swatting up on my radio work in my head, and was wondering what frequency is best to broadcast a mayday on.

Lets say I am in D2000 and I have not heard another aerie for a while and experience a problem and not sure i can put down safely. Do I stay on D2000 frequncy, switch to a more popular one or switch to a manned tower frequency?

I believe the official answer is stay on your frequency and broadcast, but are all frequencies monitored?

Use your descresion. If you are flying in D200 (don't know where D2000 is   ) and you notice that you are the only aircraft, why broadcast on 124.4??

Remember that 121.5 is the international frequency for emergency, and is supposed to be manned at all times.

Big iron usually monitor 121.5 as do the boys in CT. Me I would concentrate on making a controlled crash....

PS
Some of the handhelds have a 121.5 button for emergency? I have made 2 mayday calls. both were on the freq I was on and I did not finish either other than VOK, Mayday, May...... Going down near xyz....

Yip.

1st one was Martha landing on HMS Woods Warehousing.... A bit like that "VOK, mayday may... going down woods engine failure", thump..... followed by long silence and meditation, shortly followed by cursing and wreck kicking.....

2nd was a precautionary that turned into a forced ob at Carltonville after the AMO made oops on a TCA. Engine died on short finals so was already landing but it still gets you attention when the fan stops even if you expecting it lik I was.... Bit of field maint to fit part the right way aroud so when you pull the levers the engine makes more noise as opposed to less and I was back in air. Has not missed a beat since and we have a new AMO since....

Nothing that exciting.....

Forgot about 121.5...

ANC... was up to tbe communicate bit and was wondering.

wargames, sorry meant D200... when I first got the radio I made the mistake when I programmed channels into the radio and consequently think of it as the D2000

Cannot wait to get home, get the trike APed and get airborne, its been too long.
