Was just wandering if anyone has ever done the following analysis. Is there any relationship between persons having had one or more than one car accident and having had a flying accident. You get these car drivers that always have an accident that is never their mistake. I was just wondering if it is the same for flying?
Also why do we not do any personal profile testing before we start training in order to assist us in our behaviour towards flying. For example I did a profile test the other day and the person told me I am to trust worthy. This could possibly lead to the following example. I ask someone to fill up with fuel, will accept that it has been done with the result of having an engine out due to fuel starvation. So my behaviour for flying must change to conciously[/b] check and re check!
Has anyone got any statistics available on this?

When you start learning to fly your instrutor will teach you the safe way of doing things. Proper pre flight checks, run ups etc. Yes there are some people who are not suited for flying, but most filght instructors will be able to see who they are and stop them from doing this type of sport.
In flying you cant get out and repair something up there !There is no margin for error.
flying is a sport that very few individuals have experienced. Its not for everybody, It is dangerous.
Hey but so is driving! I dont think that you can draw parrallels with driving accidents. Even pilots with hundreds of hours under the belt have accidents. Its possible with all of us.
Its a mindset you need to get into - FLY SAFE OR NOT AT ALL.
Always be prepared.
Hope to see you in the air one day.

Re: Flying vs Driving
What you are raising is exactly my point. How many pilots do you know that has had a couple of close misses and were lucky to have escaped without actually having an accident. How many student pilots do you know that have failed to qualify because the instructor felt that they are not suited for flying. I know a lot of experienced pilots(500 hours plus) that I feel just as uncomfortable getting in the plane with as I feel getting into a car with some drivers. You just know it is an accident waiting to take place.
The fact that it just does not happen demonstrates my point. If you can land, take off, navigate etc.and pass all the exams you will get a license but I beleive there is a lot more that we can not address in our training regarding the pilots true capability or limits that need to be identified and addressed in some way.

I agrees with WFT.
Instructing acc to me is based on 70% Human factor ,in other words when i see the student for the first time I am able to classify him ,after the 2nd session with him I know exactly what is needed for him to complete his MPL and if not. Ja we,ve got a training program but every day you lift your training wheels you must be ready to assist him(student) & be safe for both.

I have had seven car/bike accidents and zero aircraft incidents. You be the judge....
