What happens if you don't round out?

Postby John Young » Mon Mar 02, 2009 6:59 am

Hi,

About 2 years ago, there was a prang reported in a local magazine where the PIC didn't or forgot to round out.

Descending at say 500 fpm like this -

It looks like they are doing a competition, maybe even a spot landing. All the folk right next to the runway, engine out, trike lined up. This is not an emergency situation.

I have seen that and the opposite happen where you try keep the trike in the sky too long and stall at 10 ft. The grey mist takes over and the brain stops thinking

Agree with Morph, spotlanding comp! He went for the white line across the runway and got a brown line in his shorts!!!! [0* [0* Hope he won the comp at least! Maybe he was the only one to stop within the allowed distance!!!
