More options from Optifuel
Hi,
I had the R 1 500 option fitted - all you need on a trike / small 3-axis being -
- fuel flow
- remaining litres
- remaining time
all calculated every second and based on current throttle setting.
Stephane is a "lekker ou" to deal with - oh83 655 5411

Hi Stephane,
Just some feedback on the accuracy.
Without being too precise, my first indications were a slight under and then over read.
Yesterday after paying more attention, my Optifuel indicated that 20 litres was required to fill the tank.
I bought 22 litres (just in case) and had to put 2 litres into the car.
Well done Stephane.
Regards

PS: This without adjusting parameters A or B - something you are taught about when you buy one.
In other words, my factory settings are 100%.

Hi John,
I am glad that you are happy with your instrument. Thank you for the praises, how much do I owe you?
If anyone is interested in how the calibration process works please visit the web site at www.optifuel.co.za. The design philosophy will explain more. In the downloads section you can download the manual and also a simulator that will simulate ground speed and engine rpm based on your settings. The help menu of the program will explain how it all works. The simulator is a little out of date in the new menu settings and the word "Distance" is now "Range" but it will help give you the general feel and functionality of the instrument.

Dear Stephane,
This is just short note to tell you how pleased I am with my Opti-fuel fuel meter.
The fuel tank on my aircraft is an odd shape and the actual fuel consumption could only be calculated with marginal accuracy. .
As recommended, I took the trouble to calibrate the instrument carefully by purchasing 1 or 2 litres more than the consumption indicated by the Opti-fuel. I then filled the tank completely and measured the fuel left in a measuring jug. My last refuel was accurate to less than 100ml – 0.01%.
Here are some of the benefits I now enjoy.
• On long flights I know almost immediately how long I have in the air. If the weather changes I know immediately and so I always have ample time to make a safe decision
• I used to fly with just over 50 l of fuel; I now seldom fly with more than 40 l. I obviously fly with less fuel and greater confidence.
• When purchasing fuel I only buy what I need and I don’t have half jerry cans lying about the hanger.
On long flyaways, you need only buy only the fuel required to fill the tank. Previously, guesswork always meant having tanks not quite full or having to discard the fuel which did not fit.
• Finding the ideal speed vs. the conditions is very easy.
All I can say is that the gauge is indispensable, particularly for those who have non symmetrical tanks without a sight gauge, any aircraft that is thirsty such as Gyrocopters and for anybody who is serious about X-country flights.
In addition may I just add that from the beginning I was impressed with how thorough your installation instructions were and the trouble you went to include all the bits and pieces needed for the installation. Your after sales service has been exemplary.
Thank you for a fine product

Hi Stephane,
I got caught again by your Optifuel System
This morning after flying, system indicated that I needed 24.5 litres.
Bought 25 litres (no problem I thought) except that I messed 500 ml on the floor.
Sh#t - Jong Jan - stop second guessing this thing called Optifuel.

John, I am very happy that it is giving the results that you need. It is important that you keep testing and monitor it so that you can trust the system to plan your flights. If you notice errors depending on the style of flying or if you are carrying a passenger then make a note of it and send me the data and I will help you fine tune it for accurate results across the flow range.
Cheers,
Stephane

Nah, just very careless.
Fuel had appeared in the filler neck - I gauged that approx 2 litres were still left in the jerry and thought it would fit.
Emptied the jerry and 500 ml hit the floor.
Lesson learned.
