HKS agent - Eagle Eye Aviation

Postby Marc G » Thu Feb 07, 2008 12:47 am

The HKS700E engine is a 60 hp, 4-stroke, horizontally opposed, 700cc engine, with a TBO of 800hrs!

Fuel burn 7-10 ltrs/hr.

For any information, please email (flyingmarcg@yahoo.co.uk) or call me (0823923149).

Exactly my thoughts. R30000/ every 300 hours with the 582 you have to compare to R60000/800 hours with the HKS before you have to worry about an overhaul. Even if you then discard the HKS you would have had a 25% saving per hour.

Add to this as well as a 25% saving on fuel - this saving alone over 800 hours would amount to R16800 (taking the 582 @ 12l/h, the HKS @9l/h, at the current R7/l over 800 hours)!

Of course Rotax has the upper hand in experience, service, visibility, but the current fiasco will show whether there is a shift in the market.

The efi modification tooling is currently being made, the exhaust is a ally assembly with a mild steel manifold. The inlet manifold is in three pieces with thin wall ally tubing connecting. The throttle body will have forced induction. Expected kit cost will be R10,000.00. This has proven 83 hp but most probably limit to 70 hp.

I will be flying the exhaust bit first, paperwork will start with that new atf from next week.

Still a way to go though...

Just did some calcs...

Fuel running costs of a Raptor 582 per hour: +-R 180.00
Fuel running costs of a Raptor HKS per hour: +-R 85.00

Don't forget the HKS's 800hr TBO (only minor services in between), and 200hr spark plug replacement, no 2-stroke oil, and 4-stroke reliability!

Introductory offer: $ 9 250.00 excl VAT (includes shipping, customs and airline charges.)

I have an HKS engine mount that can accomodate a nose gear for a tractor type aircraft. We have fitted the HKS to the Stellenbosch Univercity Jora UA2 and apart from some initial set-up problems the engine has been a dream to work with. I question the claimed 60 horses but will admit that she is getting better the more hrs we put on her. If you would like more info: Phil 0825544119
