Howzit guys.
This weekend I had trouble with my 503 rev counter. On Sat evening when I shut down it was 100%. On Sun morning the guage would show approx 1500rpm when I was at full power. It would move from 0-max1500rpm. I have checked the wiring as best as possible without stripping anything down- from the engine to the back of the guage? Mags are 100%- the revs do drop when doing a mag check.
What could the problem be? Any takers?
Thanks.

Re: Rotax Rev Counter Problems
I have experienced same sort of symptoms on my 503 before. I moved the battery earth wire to a different and more suitable place on the motor and all is well.
Re: Rotax Rev Counter Problems
The confusing thing is that it is regestering rpm but just not fully. Shurely if it was a loose wire or an eatrhing problem it wouldnt work at all, or at best intermittently?

Had the same problem on a 582 - the stator coils was the cause. Was also difficult to start.

Re: Rotax Rev Counter Problems
Buy new coil.
Re: Rotax Rev Counter Problems
Your coil could be starting to disintegrate. This happened to CLU-less and bits and pieces of the coil and plates broke off and were swirling around inside the coil section. This resulted in one of the ignition systems failing and the second was already badly damaged, but miraculously working. I would not fly until you pull the stator plate off and have a good look
Then if that is all fine, check your earth, could be corroding etc

Thanks guys.
I take it the coil that needs to be replaced is around R5000???
Is there a post on the forum with details on how to go about replacing it?
Thanks again for all the help.

Don't buy anything until you have inspected the old one. This document describes the strip down and reassembly
