582 Problems

Hi all. I have a North Wing Apache Sport which I have currently just bought. The motor and trike has only done 14.9 hours. The 582 has got a
Ivo Prop. The problem is that I cannot get more than 6000 revs from the engine and then at full power I get this serious vibration. I have checked the
prop and everything is set properly. Cards have been calibrated and the motor has had a full service. Please help.

When you say you have checked the prop what do you mean, have you checked it for pitch and balance, has it any chips out of it, or been recently painted.

The gearbox is a 3.47 to 1. The prop is brand new and has only done 14.9 hours as the engine. Have checked the pitch and also a measurement from
the blade to a same datem on airframe. No stone chips and prop is balanced. Another problem I find flying the Northwing is that its cruising speed is
about 75 miles to 85 miles and it is difficult to keep the aircraft in a straight line. Do other trikes with fast wings do the same??

Hi Santana,
This doesn't sound right.
My trike is steady from 55 - 100 mph.
What's the VNE of your wing?

VNE is 95mph. On the prop side of things I took it off today and replaced it with another trike prop and the problem was solved. Does anybody know whom to contact about a Ivo comp prop.

Hi Santana,
I think the problem was the pitch on your prop.
How did you check the pitch?? Or did you only check whether all blades had the same pitch??
Just set pitch finer, and problem will be solved!! Fuel consumption too, although you didn't mention it, will be better. Just for interest, what was you fuel consumption with ivo??

Santana, why don't you consider a NC carbon fibre prop. It is locally made and much cheaper
I have one on my 582 Airborne and will swear by it

Thanks gentleman for all the response. Set the pitch finer today. It was set at 16 deg and I brought it down to 14.5 deg. The vibration has gone but
I am to afraid to go down the runway know. The revs have gone up from 6100 rpm to about 6400 rpm. Waiting for a very calm day to do some bunny
hoping on runway, hope I have enough thrust. Once in the air I will ask again for some advice on a topless fast wing. Thanks

So that's static on the ground.... You have set the pitch finer! Once in the air it'll rev higher! You'll forfeit cruise speed only!
Well, any way I think so?

Hi John,
You won't loose cruise speed. But you will cruise at a slightly higher rev than what you were used to.
I know. I had the same problem. I got 5700 rpm on take off. My fuel consumption was bad, and my egt's were about 500 C. We set my prop to about 6200 static. And what would you know. Cruise rev slightly higher, but egt's 590 C and fuel consumption better. And power on take off better, because you get engine into the power groove.
Just remember, that a 2 stroke like to run fast and easy. It does not like to labour, because you are then turning your motor into a fuel cooled engine.

Hmmm, so in essence you loose cruise speed sir.... for the same rpm and power seting, you forfeit something or a few things!
I know, I played with so many WARP pitch settings on my Cheetah to get the best - I decided to buy a P-Prop and have the best of all worlds but the fuel consumption stinks!
