Polishing Lexan

Morning all,

Does anybody know if Lexan or Perspex can be polished to remove all the old scratches and make it look like new?
If yes what is the procedure and what do i need in terms of equipment and polishing goodies.
Or who could i take it to in JHB to get it done?

Unfortunately it goes milky or the image becomes distorted wherever you polish it.

the only way around it is replacement

If you have a contact in the SAAF, they use a clear fluid on fighter canopies that polishes out scratches, dull spots and shines like new. Got my last precious bottle from a friend at Swartkops for use on bike shields, unfortunately not there anymore.

PG Glass is also using a liquid polish for perspex. Try them or any other major perspex/Poly sheeting supplier.

Some bike helmet shops have some visor "polish" also.

Stay away from metal polish and finishing paste.

be very careful that you don't overheat the lexan either with a buffer.

Pledge Furniture Polish (Johnsons)
Repeated use (over time) fills in the scratches and gives it a nice shine.
Also makes the inside of the aerrie smell nice

(how's that for a lekker tip? I'll send the invoice later.....)

I use both and they work excelent. Thanks to Mogas . You can polish the whole plane with it. Works like a charm to keep the dust off

My pleasure, have also been using this forever, also good for getting miggie splats off anything with out scratching. Ditto for bike visors.
My favourite is Pledge, fragrance any.

I have perspex widows in my racing cars and use pledge/mr min to keep them clean. Use the one without the perfume smell as the smelly stuff can damage the plastic. When the windows become scratched I use brasso to take the scratches out but the proper perpex visor polish for a bike shop is better.
