Safety wires

Sorry if this is a stupid question.
These safety wires [ to lock nuts etc] that everybody talk about. Is it a special type of wire or will any soft type wire that one can wind up do the job?

Just be careful when you buy - I once used wire that kept snapping. Very frustrating because just as you have put a perfect twist in and want to fix the other end the damn wire snaps....

Hi Christo,
The wire used is stainlesssteel and is available from Aviation engines 0114554203. I use their product and have not had any hassles with it snapping etc.

If you are not near aviation engines you can buy the wire at any nut and bolt supplier, like Topfast. Ideal thickness should be about 0.8mm and it must be Stainless Steel. They also use it in the sailing industry so any boat/yacht supplier would be able to supply.

Ek gebruik die safety wire wat Eskom gebruik.Baie geskik en het n groot rol by n vriend gekry.Laat weet my as jy wil he en dan maak ek n plan om dit by jou te kry.

go to any nut and bolt supplier. It must be stainless steel, nothing else
