I suspect you guys would know.... i am in the market for a Gps, I was just about to buy a 276c but then i saw a 296
Does anybody know what the difference is between the two...except price?
I mean the body looks the same but is the insides the same?
Can i make a 276 a aviation gps by adding the right software or do i need to go for the 296?
Thanks!

The 276c is not an aviation GPS and cannot be upgraded, get a 296, you won't be sorry
Fly safe,

Consider the 196. As far as I know the 296 has a colour screen and otherwise they are the same. Big difference in price if you consider the real amount of time it is going to be used. My 196 nice big clear screen and very happy with it. Think almost R4000 price difference.

I had 296. Got stolen and then replaced with 196. 196 def best value for money. Colour nice, but not worth extra moola. 276 I think is marine GPS...

196 / 296 can be used for road / air & marine! Both have autorouting function.
Be seriously careful when loading the freeware tracks for 4X4 with the Garmap software - they tend to conflict.
You get the Jeppesen database loaded but if my memory serves me correct - you have to buy the GARMAP software additionaly. Then you go for the topographical maps if you are serious about off-roading!
196 best bang for buck!

The GARMAP software I was referring to is SOUTH AFRICAN STREETMAPS or AFRICA SERIES 2008. You can check that out at
www.garmap.co.za
I agree with George... use the 196 in your aerie, a nuvi in your car & a zumo on your bike....
You can buy all three for the price of a 296!
