Start your plane and rev it up to max, switch both mags off and then back on again before the motor stops, i.e. 1/2 sec etc. Note the engine does not immediately die, takes a few secs. Now is this the same sensation as you are getting in the air? If so then your problem is electrical with the Ducatti ignition system

With fuel problems the motor won't suddenly die. It will be a more gradual loss of power, i.e. a few seconds more as opposed to 2-3 seconds. I have had fuel starvation problems before and the motor starts loosing power, coughing and farting. Switching an electric pump on doesn't suddenly bring it back to life either, takes a few seconds more of coughing and farting and then comes back up.

Hope this helps

Hi REDROMAN...We have cleaned carbs jets needle n seat..am replacing on both carbs just as a precaution.i think we may have found the problem...still to test..we managed to get the engine to loose power on ground test and found after switching both mags off immediately, that one carb bowl was dry of fuel.checked pump..nothing wrong..then noticed vacuum pipe from pump to sump kinked..restricting vac flow.rerooted pipe and tested..reving normaly again.have not test flown yet but will see after carb service
Thanks for the input..much appreciated
Cheers

Graham, not sure what you mean by "vacuum pipe from pump to sump"
Are you referring to the pulse line? From the engine to the pump? If so, then both bowls would/should have been empty as this pipe is what makes the pump "tick"
You wanna phone me? I have a theory for you. Or drive round the corner for a chat about it.

Had a similar experience with my 582. As Morph mentioned my problem lay with the Ducati coils. One of the wires had burnt off inside at the base of the Ducati Male/Female connector. Everything checked out fine doing checks, did a game count and in flight when we trurned out left and climbed the engine would lose power. Straight and level everything normal, same result each time....

I cut the connectors off and replaced with a different connector system! Problem solved.... Hope this helps!

thanks bad nav
i will check out the connector on the ducati coil..it is a bit suspect as one of the wires the insulation/plastic coating has gone a bit soft/spongie
thanks for the advise

Hi Graham Mac.
I had the same problem. on several accasions I found one bowl empty. It was really nerve racking. I fitted new pump kit. Float needles. Fuel pipes. The problem seems to have been solved. Still don't know what the cause was.
Cheers.

Hey Mac,
Have you got fuel in the fuel tank?
