Dumb question...can you fuel inject a Rotax 503? :? If yes what are the costs and how? Consequences? Where do get the stuff? If not why? This is just a question to get a discussion going. I'm happy with my with the way things are, but my arrie often cuts out, on landing have to pull choke or restart on the runway. This is when I do a glide approach just before the threashold and run at idle.

I seem to remember, when I first started being interested in microlighting, an article on someone that had fitted an opel injections system to a rotax... I have no idea what engine it was I would imagine a 582... did a quick search and couln't find it mayabe it was on another site.

Hi Skidmark,

My 503 did the same a while back - one of the idle jets was blocked. A good blast with air and she was right as rain again. The 503's idle speed needs to be quite high - too low and you'll get similar problems.

A Hirth 3202 uses fuel injection. Could this system not be adapted to a 582?

Hiya Bad Nav

For info I am using a Daewoo throttle body and injectors on my HKS, its the same as a half a 1400cc. I see no reason when i have finished the HKS project that the same system could be made to work with a 503/582. It requires a heap of plumbing though. My thoughts are that the 503/582 deliver sufficient power/economy why bother. It just adds complications. As a two stroke with related emission related problems it seems pointless spending time on a project without "legs". The 912 is a different kettle of fish and I may do that project next.

The sole reason for the HKS project is to give it more power and in line with a 582, but with the 1000 hr tbo of a four stroke. I also believe the HKS will be around for a long time as the US market uses many. It will also offer an economical alternative to the part 24 crank change "paperwork problem" of the Rotax motors.

Got to prove it though..someones got to do it first..

I am very fortunate in the fact that a foundry in our complex makes high grade cast ally manifolds for the street racing fraternity in the US and Oz. They incidentally make the inlet manifold used on the Oz made Spitfire. I have superb resources available so if anyone wants a manifold casting. It may be in stock !

Did you urine-inject your bed this morning, Posting a reply at 6:40, you must have! At your age the plumbing shouldn't leak.
Don't let the pressure get to you.

Hi Skid

I would say the easiest way would be to use a blow through carburetor,

wich requires positive pressure from a high pressure pump.

Delorto comes to mind.

The old vw variant used a single injector system, it was commonly known

as a sp feul injection carburetor, don't know if they still make them.

Another option would be to look at the injection systems used

on motorbikes, you get them on two strokes as well,

but do you really want to add to the components wich can fail ?

Hiya Zulu1

Whats the progress on the HKS project?

Howzit Bad Nav

The throttle bodies (Daewoo), exhaust, fuel pumps and electronics are complete and will "time permitting" collect tomorrow jhb. and then its ground run output checks. It looks at though we are in the 67 ish Hp possible range with first trials. Then if all is well we will be making the cast ally inlet manifolds patterns etc. Make the correct ecu boards and then a kit.

I intend to do a back to back thrust test in Jhb with a 582 on the scales to give us an idea. What is nice is the egts/chts are being used as a safety input to the ECU. This is a really good feature as you technically cant poke the motor as it is fully controlled.

If all is well the same electronics etc will work on the 912 as well, just manifolds different. The HKS has the same carbs as the 912.

It may well be a 1000hr alternative to the two strokes at a similar price, fingers crossed. Still a heap of work though. And locally made kits, spares etc. What a pleasure.

Someone has got to beat these type 24 rules !! most probably call it (if effective) HKS700/24 efi

I will need a forum "law adviser" to help with the paperwork in the very near future please any volunteers ??

How about a kit on a JAB 80/85 motor?
